Default 406 Green and Red lights on keypad

My 406 has been set up to work the immobiliser in Automatic mode - meaning I don't have to enter a code, just stick the key in and start. (code is unknown by previous owner).

Now suddenly the engine won't start, I get both green and red lights on the key pad, The breakdown bloke said there is no spark at the plugs.

Weird thing is that if the car is left for in excess of 30mins it sometimes shows just the green light and starts.

Other times (like left overnight) it does not start

    Many thanks for any ideas.

id say odds on its some wacky alarm problem

chances are its a dodgy cheap alarm or a dodgy install...

get it to a car security specialist place and have them gut it and start again with a high end system, at least thats what id do, top notch security should be a priority with our puggies

If you get three greens it means all wheels are down and you can land

I've had pretty much the same problem.
Previosu owner installed an aftermarket immobiliser/alarm and it went faulty. I would prevent me from starting the engine ocassionally. If you leave it over 1 hour it would start...

so had it checked out and got the service to remove the alarm all together... never had starting probs after that.

...I believe some of the early UK spec 406's came with a keypad immobiliser from the factory... We did not get that option in australia, so my advice would be as already stated. However, the immobiliser's are inclined to fail on the D8 406's, which causes this intermittent behaviour - most here have had theirs disconnected.

    All the best
