Default suggestions for colours for my 205 gti

I need to get the roof and rear hatch painted and a few touch ups done to my gti to keep it lookin schmick.
Now the guy who's doing it offered to do the whole car for $1800.
thats 5 coats and oven baked inside and out.
This is strictly a very close mates rates deal with me helping and doing alot of the prepping myself . ill strip the intereor and help sanding etc.
I was thinking [which is always a dangerous proposition] that i might change the colour of the car completly.
Which probably means taking out the motor to do it properly or if i did it in black,i could keep the dark grey in the engine bay without it lookin too bad.
Now ,ive seen some nice colours around but would like some suggestion with foto's if possible of some truly righteous colour's,
so far i like sparkly gold[pimpin]
that red 205 gti that peter t once posted a picture of.
luminous metalflakegreen with purple flame job and orange pinstripping.
well you get the idea, throw in your suggestions,
also if you prefer the extereor trims in the same colour as the car or black or grey.

Keep it original!!! Dark Grey GTI's look cool enough and will be a little easier to maintain than black!Once the whole thing has been resprayed in the original colour, it'll look great.

Is it graphite grey? If so keep it original, They're rare and a rather tasty colour IMO.

Go the Lazer Green Baz. Anthracite rims and you'd be the pimpin'est bitch around.

Don't change it Baz. Too hard to do it properly (engine bay+boot+door jams).
Asanka will tell you that white is the coolest colour around. Don't believe him.
    Keep it graphite.
    Don't colour code bumpers.
Just get new red strips ( or polish the existing ones to re-juvenate them).
For $1800 you can make it go faster.

    Bazz,

    How are ya mate,

I reckon a colour a little darker than the graphite gray and some dark 15in speedlines. Or a gloss black. If you go for a graphite color you should get the trim painted in black with the red srtipes the same color as your wheels. I saw a car similar to this in france yesterday and it looked great,

If you want to bring it looks forward I suggest 206-180 Silver..... but its your choice in the end baz. Silver is VERY easy to keep clean, touch up and looks good for years. With a gloss coat it will remind us of the Silver Bullet's that ran in the WRC!
However PLEASE DON'T BAKE the finish, instead ask if you can let the car sit in the booth over night then store it some were at room temp for 3-4 days and ask him not to use much hardner or reducer in the paint, let it flow maann.... Baking it will reveal imperfections and take out a fair amount of gloss. If you gotta bake, do it VERY low temp... that's my on that anyway. - Chris

ps, when I respayed my S16 thats what we did and it turned out a million bucks and looks good without polish! but a quick buff latter,... damm tuff as nails look and shine.

I'd stick with the charcoal grey, if that's what it had originally. It's a good colour for 205s.
I'd steer clear of black as it never stays clean, any dirt shows up clearly and it will be hot in summer.

if you dont wanna do a FULL respray you could still look at putting a pearl coat over it - your metallic grey is a good basis to start with...

If not, my favourite colour at the moment is the Dark metallic blue on the Lexus IS2000... sooooooo deep.

My Bro the pnael beater car restorer would always advise... keep the orginal colour for reasons others have outlines and I agree that the grey is sweet!

well it seems by the reaction its about 50/50 paint it /keep it original.
ultimatly id like some rare exotic colour but the realities of upkeep and match-up of a custom colour later on can get tricky.
i think im gonna go deep deep black.
1-it looks really cool a nice deep rolls/porche/ferrari black
2-not too different from the drk gry so i may get away without doin the engine bay.
3-dirt is not an issue,i keep it clean with regular washing.
    4-the painter is reaaaalllyyy good.
i was checking out his photo album of his previuos custom jobs and sarted to droooool.amazing stuff.
obviuosly im not gonna go the flames and pinstripes but just a nice paint job.
or maybe i will go the drk gray again....or....i dont know, the pictures and the rice worm fever are getting to me,
i need a herbal tea and a lie down.-
    keep the suggestions coming-BAZZ
or should i go asanka white?????????????????????????http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/ima...ons/icon10.gif

you know if youre gonna respray the gti another colour youll have to do the engine bay, and interior, or youll absolutely hate it.

as great as an individual colour sounds, save your cash... maybe re-spray it in the same colour to touch up scratches and faded paint - along with banging out any dents(should be cheaper) - and get crackn with some engine mods.

if it has to be a colour, i lurve that froggy green found on 206CCs!

leave it as it is... if you want to make it more original then add a bit of something to the paint to make it slightly diffrent. If it's grey add a bit more silver to it or something, it'll stand out, but people won't know why. A custom colour may stand out, but you'll soon learn to hate it if it goes wrong. Either that, or people will think you're a ricer bogan driving around in a color the 205 never came in

I think you should get big flames painted down the side and "Ride of the Valkerie" painted across the tailgate. Uber cool, Uber cool.
