    Default tyres in melb...

    gday all.

was after some new tyres for my 306 in a 185/65R14.

I've decided to go for some yoko c.drives, but haven't found any quotes for under $140 per corner. You blokes up in Sydney seem to get them for $20 a corner less... So maybe I'll just get some Dunlop 300e's as I'm a cheapstake...

unless of course, a fellow frogger could tell me where there are some cheap tyres in melbourne?

    any help appreciated!

alright, a bit more ringing around has unveilled BFGoodrich Sport TA's to be an option, and at only $105 a corner (from chapel corner tyres), they may get the pick.

anybody had a go on these?

The dunlops have dropped off the shopping list, which now looks like this:

    Yoko c.drives @ about $140
    bfg sport t/as @ $105
    bridgestone potenza g3's in 195/60r14 @ about $140

From what i've read, there are a few happy chappys on AF with the yoko c.drives, and back in Wheels tyre test, these 3 were the top "performers" in the smaller size they tested.

it'd be great to hear an opinion as i really want to know if the extra dosh is worth anything, or if i should consider changing size.

    Cheers,
    Peter.

I always used potenzas on my S16, and they were always good. I usually get my tyres from Donnellans in Box Hill, have found them to be very competitive for price, and give good service.

I've heard a good word about them, but haven't called yet as Box Hill is a bit out of the way. Thanks for the tip!

No worries, they have other outlets - one in Collingwood I think, and somewhere else that I can't remember.

Yup, oakleigh and somewhere north near brunswick too from memory. But alas, I live in williamstown, and go to uni in the city, so convenience may prevail over price this time round...

then again, stkilda is a bit out of the way as well, which is where the chapel corner guys are... hmm, there's a tram running through collingwood ain't there..... may give the collingwood mob a bell then!

That's what my wallet said. Then my right foot became curious about the g3's. The gf, of course, speaks the same language as the wallet.

The Xantia (185/65 14) has just been reshod with Michelin XM-1's. These are excellent in this application and VASTLY superior to the Pirelli P6000 before it. Better too than the XH-1's, Bridgestone Turanza's and Toyo's I've tried.

Don't know about the Yoko's, but at $139 a corner, treadwear 380, the Michelin's get my vote.
