    Icon3 Roadworthy

    Hi All,

Finally got around to getting a roadworthy for my 205 GTi yesterday, after spending the last 6 months fixing everything that I could find including an engine rebuild.

He gave me the good news with a smile, to be fixed: engine leaking oil from somewhere near the cam, drive shaft boot needs replacing (i knew that one), oil leaking from drive shafts the seals, front brake lines frayed need new ones (can you get braided??), cracked exhaust manifold (i knew that one), cat is stuffed, and to top it all off I need to rebuild the rear suspension!!! Too much sideways movement that a previous owner put spacers in to stop the tyres rubbing!

He has quoted me $5500.00 as a rough repair cost, parts alone for the rear will set me back $2000.00. Has anyone had this problem before with too much play in the rear, most of the other problems I can fix with relatively low cost and according to the mechanic second had rear ends usually have the same problem after this amount of time, so second hand is out of the question too...

I would like to keep my Pug, but if I do these repairs I will have spent $10,000.00 since christmas to get it up too scratch, I knew that owning a Pug could be costly, but really, tell me honestly, have I bought a lemon or are these common problems???

Any advise would be appreciated, and know I am not going to take out insurance and write it off, so don't even suggest that one...

I'd search for a 2nd hand S3 rear and get rear discs as a bonus, a lot newer so play shouldn't be a problem and nowhere near $2000...
