    Default GTi 180 Altezza lights...

No, I am not looking for some

I went to a dealership in Melbourne on Saturday and they had a GTi180 (Black) with UGLY altezza lights and the dash facia changed to aluminum finish as opposed to the carbon fibre finish. I must say it was VERY ugly...

One of the sales guys approached me (my 180 was parked just outside (he wasn't very observant)) and I said what is with the lights and dash. I quote "Many people see this as the reason to buy the car"

Not only that, it had 5000km on the clock and was 32000$

I pity the poor person that buys this car. I hope they get told it isn't standard... or are offered the standard lights and fittings.

I used to think Altezza was a brand name (it might be now). But it comes from the Lexus IS300 or Lexus Altezza as it was known in some parts of the world, the first modern car to have this style of lights ... some trivia for you.

At least now we have someone to blame for that ugly fad.

Yep, I don't know if they are a brand. Altezza has become synonymise with clear reflective lights due to the Lexus vehicle of the same name.

In Japan there is NO LEXUS, Lexus is just a brand Toyota use in their exports markets, which is anywere execpt japan. Altezza is what the Japanese have always called our IS200, and now IS300...

ACTUALLY the first car to have that style was the lexus IS300 and toyota Altezza (same car, different badge) although im sure there are some lexus altezza's out there, just like the lexus/toyota soarer/gx400

they can look ok on certain cars, but seriously, not on a pug, just plain uggers

    So not the IS200 then...

Personally I would have thought that the term "Lexus-style tail lights" was fairly self explanatory, but apparently it's not.

mmm...there are a few guys over there i talked to before, which sounded like rice boys, the funny part, is that I ask the saleperson while testing driving the GTI180, what does he drive, the answer "I drive a VW Golf, always been a fan of it'....

They also offered me to trade in a 406 coupe with OZ Superturismo 17" rims on it, while it'd good on a 206GTI/GTI180, not for a classy/sexy coupe to have something that's so sporty/rice

    Default Altezza Lights

French cars are suppose to for car enthusiasts with flair it's quirkeness and character! Each car and owner has its own personality. Why not stand out from other 180 owners with Lexus lights or 17inch chrome mags or put on a body kit! It's not rice if you do that! It makes you stand out even further then the standard beautiful 180. Man you should check out some of the beasts from UK France or Belgium I know some of them go way too far! but there are some great Pugs and not all of them go over the top!

Not originaly, as LEXUS is suposed to be an acronim (spel?) for Luxury Export to the United States. I thought that was crap till it was pointed out to me by my Lexus selling friend in Chatswood.
You can buy Lexus badged cars in japan but (only recently) and not the same cars that you and I get here, the original IS200 here IS a badged Lexus, but is a Toyota Altezza in Japan, this is the car that started it all (all being these so called altezza lights) back in 99. In Japan its trendy to do the badge swap thing, Soarers becames SC430's, Altezzas became Lexus's etc etc...

Simon, your right it was the IS200, its just that the IS300 has since surpased the IS200 here in AUS, were as in japan they are called Toyota Altezza... confused? nah its just the same cars Toyota=Lexus=Toyota with different badges, Lexus is only a marketing thing by Toyota for when they first release the 400 back in the early-mid 90's to the US.... you know that car made famous (well not famous enough) because Bill Gates bought one.
Both Lexus 4wd's are just rebadged and sightly different extra bits, Prado's and Landcruiser's... lol. - Chris

see as i see it people can do what they want, even if it is ugly

but modifying a ferrari is like trying to make a work of art better, it simply cannot be done

if you own a ferrari, you are the coolest motorist ever, you have no point to prove

and yes, altezza lights for vans are easy to come by, kos u know, fast vans have massive street appeal, and you can pick up so easily in a riced hiace.
