Cheers Chris, what state is it in? I'm pretty sure the other one isn't as bad as he made it out to be, but it could be warped and it will obviously need skimming.

My dads thoughts - he told me not to leave it there when he saw it, but he also told me not to bring it home until the fuego was gone... I think it is a good thing he is in france at the moment...

Anyway, the thing is an 88 with 200 odd kms on it. The body is straighter than my Mi16, (one tiny dint in it) it has new tyres/driveshafts/hoses... The inside is basically pretty good, but it has the standard missing glovebox lid. It also has some problems with the head, (looking like a just a gasket though) which warranted the small price tag.

Overall i think that i was in the right place at the right time. The owner wants it gone and can't be bothered with it so i got it pretty cheap. If the engine is salvagable i should have it on the road for under $2K.

These are the pics that were in the ad anyway - it's just a bit dirtier now...

I'm glad your fixing the car mate, it was too good to let waste. I don't know why Ben hadn't fixed it himself

al, the gti looks great in the pix, both inside and out. its so straight and clean. still cant believe the price you picked it up for.

the painted metal interiors of the series 1 look unreal. and i can see youve got the original gear knob still intact. the seats look mint, too. hows the air conditioning? where are the cracks on the dash?

hey al, your on a bit of a car buying binge of late to say the least . what made you buy a 205gti?

have you actually really driven a 205gti? have you driven your new car yet?

also, let us all know when you plan to torch the p.o.s. fwaggot so we can all bring some bbq sausages and a slab.

someone please bring ketchup and petrol.

The air con was replaced recently, but it needs a regas...

And i made sure i had driven one before i bought it. I had a bit of a blat in one here just before i went up to brisvegas, but i also had a good drive in a tuned one in the UK last year.

Unfortunately this one isn't drivable at the moment, but it seemed to be worth the risk. If and when i sell the 405 i will probably spend some more serious money on it...

Have you read the fault code?? What sensor is it. Whichever sensor it is, just take it off, clean it up and refit and see if its better.

In the case of the knock sensor make sure you bolt it onto the block tight; that seems to be what has fixed mine (for the moment anyway).
