    Icon7 My new 180

Some of you may already know but my old blue GTI 180 was stolen… with all the dramas I’ve previously had with Peugeot service I swore that I’d never go Peugeot again.

With $40K in my back pocket I spent 2 weeks checking out my options and to be honest, I could find another car that had the same value for money as the 180. I nearly opted to spend an extra $6K and go for a VW Golf GTI, but as I’m still looking for a Mustang I really wanted to keep the price below $40K.

After some wheeling and deeling, I managed to land a Black 180, with a 6 stack CD player and full leather for $39K. What really looked in the deal was the 5 Year Warranty.

I’ve attached some photos of the full leather interior. I know some of you may ask why change the beautiful standard sporty interior? Well my main reason was the standard mesh is nothing more that a drama to keep in good nick. Just simply sitting down in a pair of jean with a stud will rip the mesh.

Plus I really think the full leather tied in with the standard GTI floor mats look stylish….

Nice work. Lucky you didnt order the Golf or you'd still be waiting. Last I heard the waiting time on new GTI's was around 7 months!

I was in the VW showroom yesterday, it's still 7mths AND they don't let me test drive until I put a $2K deposit for the order... so why on earth do i need a test drive if i ordered the car already ???

I was told January, but there was an article in the paper stating that VW couldn't hold their delivery schedule and would be over 6 months behind.

Is the leather front and back seats or just front?

Anyway the leather looks nice, add a mafia tint and i guess you would have it in stealth mode.

    Congrats on the new purchase.

Looks good, but the big question ... was the leather from factory, done by dealer, you organise it yourself ? And Cost ? (they quoted me $2.5K when I asked (when it's a $500 factory option in the UK) .

Try another dealer, they didn't have an issue when I took one for a spin.

PS: Test drove a MY02 200SX for a friend yesterday ... interesting car. Grunt, grunt and more grunt ... wheelspin in 3rd !! But it's still a boat IMHO ... steering not that direct, a little rough and unrefined in the suspension department, engine didn't come onsong until 4000rpm .. no torque (5th gear didn't hold 60kph comfortably .. 6th no hope). Switch gear typically Japanese ... Fun ... hell yeah, but stepping back into the Pug made me appreciate ride and handling for what they should be.

Man, you must have some sharp threads Apart from the constant creaking of it, I've found the mesh to be quite resilient to any sort of damage.

I must say though, that the full leather look is pretty schmick. I'm with the others - is it factory, and how much would it normally cost?

P.S. Congrats on the new car too

    No.

Performance wise I'll probably just put in a new intake and get the computer re-graphed.

Interior, I'm getting some custom made 2cm deep cut pile NZ wool floor matts front and rear.

I'm considering window tint, but I enjoy country drives and don't want the scenery darkened.

Rear Seats and door trim as well.

Nice dealer - spill the beans. They wouldn't even entertain the idea here (and there is NO way it cost 3K).

Of course it wouldn't have cost $3K but meh.

I was surprised they'd go with it. They had to do the job from scratch including pattern.

They screwed it up a bit because I asked for contrast stitching to match the stearing wheel and dash pad, and they used dark grey stitching. I'm still awaiting to see if they will fix it or pay back some of the cash.

I surf every weekend at Long Reef and the keys were stollen from my towel. I'm pretty certian it was a planned theft, and wouldn't be surprised if the car never shows up again.

If anyone does see my wheels on a car or for sale (see pic in members gallery), please let me know. They are one-offs and it will be an easy way to catch who ever has stollen the car.

Yes indeed. I would have though they'd have trouble selling a unique car like that one was. Even the individual bits

I've certainly never seen anything like it in Sydney.
