    Default 205GTI Highway hesitation

    all,

Just come back from a quick trip to Canberra. Whilst driving down the highway at 110kph, the car develops a hesitation at very odd intervals. The cars de-accelerates slightly/suddenly then picks up and runs fine until the next time. Car runs fine all other times and fairly flies along, also fuel economy is approx 7.5lt per 100 k (including fanging around Canberra).

Theory 1: It is usually approx 1hr plus into trip with throttle position fairly constant. As the throttle pedal travel is so short, my foot could be twitching (too go faster maybe?) and causing the hesitation?

Theory 2: Fuel pick up? Occurs at any tank level though.

Theory 3: Ignition breaking down after long periods (although car does not get that hot)?

    Theory 4. O2 sensor????

Any ideas or others have this problem?

    dodgy canberra petrol?

I have had problems with some petrol stations down here. i used to work for one in Braddon and they used to talk about some pretty dodgy scams..

if i dont use premium i get a bit of roughness when reving over 3 (when im doing 110kms its reving at about 3.5)

Nothing but the purest BP Ultimate from Sydney and Canberra. It happened on the way down (and on another trip to CBR the same).

So many small jobs adding up

It needs a service soon where I will be getting a number of small niggles fixed: clutch cable lubbed, Injector weep (now to be cleaned), Fuel filter change new exhaust manifold (ceramic coated mmmmm), new door pins

I still love my little Pug. The back way to the Hume is sooo much fun. Mulgoa rd to Wallacia, Oaks, Thirlemere (sp?), Tahmoor and then Bargo.

My 205 gti had sagging doors.
Unbolted each door and rested each on a beer crate.
Removed the very worn tension pins. Redrilled hinge and welded tang on the chassis to 8mm. Inserted new 8mm tension pins and refitted the doors.
No slop whatsoever and just like new. use an air drill as they are a slim design and will enable you to drill the tang on the chassis straight.

    Pete
