    Default Cheap 306 White Rims

I went looking for white rims for my S16 - tried around 6 different tyre shops (almost all the Wellington ones - hehehehehe) and the cheapest set I could get was around $2500 NZ.

Ended up taking the old pug rims to an engineering shop who cleaned them up ($20 NZ a rim) and then had them powder-coat white ($50 RIM).

I think they look good as my car is RED but they need cleaning every week.

PUGJET - don't have any close-ups at the moment.

Only problem with the coating was the center piece (Plastic).

my friends (engaged) both have mod'd white wagons... (caldenia gttt (198kw @ the wheels, and a sp20 with minor mod's) and have white wheels... they look really good...

i'm just wondering how the powder coating would stand up to gravel and the stone chips...

I asked around before I did it - came down to POWDER or PAINT.

    Just about all said POWDER.

A friend did his and he didn't get a clear coat. His race car brake dust "ate" into the powder coating leaving them looking like crap.

The clear coat helps with cleaning.

WTPUG36 - The guys that did my powder coating recommended an engineering outfit that used a lathe to clean up the scrathes / nicks and then some filing.

It's interesting you said powder coating was preferred. I visited a wheel repair place in Blacktown last week, as I'm refurbishing some 15" 205 wheels. They wanted $150 per wheel, done in two pack (clear over silver). They said they definitely don't powder coat as it's too brittle. I thought $150 was a bit steep, so I had the wheels sand blasted for $50. My local paint shop is painting them for $50/wheel in two pack.

is the painting done? If you have, do you have a before/after photo of the new look?
what sort of paint is the paint shop going to use?
