i used to have a screen in my 306, and was considering hooking up GPS.

however, the dash got in the way when the screen was retracting out of the dash. at the time i couldnt be bothered getting a custom mould made for the dash to make the screen sit flush...so i reverted back to ye old style headunit.

but yeah, with GPS, if u can replace ur stock unit with a tv/dvd combo, and then hook up a VDO gps cd reader thing in the boot, that could work.

or you could keep ur existing factory stereo, and just mount a standalone screen either on top of the dash, or somewhere where u can see, and again, just have that hooked up to the GPS cd reader thing....

dunno if that helps at all tho.....

I'm also curious to see what people have done, all the dealer could offer me when I bought mine was a hand-held one.

...and while we're at it, does anyone know why they don't use the OEM Peugeot GPS?

I remember seeing controls for it in the manual, but for some reason it's not offerred here as an option.

    Thanks
    Nick

Watch the athermic windscreen .. doesn't allow a good signal for GPS ...

From what I have managed to find out, the OEM one only supports Euro maps, and we are unlikely to get it in the forseeable future

That's a shame, VW managed to do it with Aussie maps (as to Jag, Audi, and most other european brands).

What sort of set up are you after?

The windscreen is the big problem - you need an external aerial or one of those fancy Bluetooth units on the rear parcel shelf and shoot it off to your Bluetooth-equipped PDA in the front equipped with mapping software.

It was discussed a little bit on this thread recently:

I was just wondering if peugeot offered it in a 206. I know you can get all the hand held ones. I was just curious how it looked.

Overseas only .. and it uses that silly little Multidisplay to do it .. no map just instructions .. pretty useless, the 407 GPS unit has a nice large screen ... was "supposed" to be available in Jan05 ... yet to see one though.
