That is the same engine as fitted to the XM & Xantia 2.0 Turbos - I did not realise that there was Pug equivalent, but it makes sense, given PSA's habit of mixing and matching.

    There's a road test here -

    http://www.ukcar.com/road_tests/peugeot/406turbo/

The engine is not phenomenally happy in an Auto XM - I have driven one a bit, and it takes a while to get up and go - once rolling it really flies, though. Apparently they are very good for towing.

I know someone with a Xantia CT Turbo manual and he says it is a real flier .

Weird about the plate - having a bad day ay the factory? (Unless you've got yourself a turbo you didn't know about )

On my previous GTi, the sticker under the bonnet said it was 1.6litre! First time I noticed it I went cross eyed. Had few theories, like previous owner might have crashed it and replaced the bonnet off a wrecked 206 etc

    In Australia: 05 206 GTi 180 and '97 406 v6
    In Lebanon: 09 C3 Exclusive

    All in Silver

    Previously '01 206 GTi

    Hi

Yes Peugeot did produce a 406 2 litre turbo, It has the XU10J2TE engine fitted & pumps out 155BHP.
Its basically the 8 valve 2 litre lump out the 405 with a turbo bolted on.

Its not a very good engine ( thanks to the low pressure turbo ) It drinks fuel compared to the 2 litre 16 valve 406 & the turbo has a habit of seizing up, Best avoided.

Also ones to avoid if they ever made it down under are the 2 litre HPI (Yes HPI petrol ) engines, They didn't last long in production & are very very troublesome, Also fitted to the Citroen C5 & it might have made a brief appearance in the Xantia

Also thank god the 1.6 8 valve 406 never escaped from France, That is seriously an under powered car.
