Does it have colour coded bumpers, large Lion on the boot lid, 6 airbags and ESP ... these came on some 2004 spec 206's (built in 2003) ?

ESP models have 6 airbags. There may be a button on the dash to disable the ESP to the right of the steering column (ESP can be disabled on GTi138??).

New 2004/2005 GTi's have 6 airbags ... Driver and front passenger airbags, Front side airbags and Full length curtain airbags. Some of the cross over ones (late 2003) still had 4 but they gained the colour coded bumper etc. ESP is a switch on the right hand side .. with ESP written on it.

The tweeters in the new versions are different .. they are slightly pointed towards you .. and not flush (like my MY02 GTi), the top the seat (near the headrest) should be all leather as well .. then down into material, and lastly Alcantara suede.

Mainly minor differences, if you like the car, you like the car. See www.206gti.net for other info.

    Yep .. GTi6 is a 306 GTi with a 6 speed gearbox, GTi138 is a 206 with 138hp and GTi180 is a 206GTi with 180hp.

Excellent choice, great price that is not shabby at all for those 60k odd km's.

Take it to a mechanic that you trust, and up it on a hoist.
Check for leaks (especially around the drive shafts going into the gearbox), and any structural abnormalities. Check brake discs thicknesses.

Take it on a spin, try down hills at 60kph into neutral and check for any bearing noises.

And tell us how it all goes. Congratulations in advance

MY02/03 have the sliver/white dials, the next lot went back to the original black, some people like the black others the silver.

Is it a private sale, or caryard?

Also, check if the front bumper. If the grille has a honeycomb insert, it's the new model. If it has horizontal bars, it's an older one. This was updated on all GTis & CCs with the model update, when the 180 was released. The new model GTi (138) doesn't have the white faced instruments. They're exactly the same as the 180. So, will have a black face, silver surrounds with orange lighting & white needles.

Private sale, guy has had since it was a demo model...it has the honeycomb grill, coz he pointed it out n said it was part of the 2004 update, the dash is the same as you described it, looks quite funnky still, but id prefer white...

it did have all the door handles, gear knob and pedals in silver...pics should be up about 4pm (brissie time)

It is definitely an MY04 138. Here is the Redbook entry:
    http://www.redbook.com.au/vehiclesearch/price.asp?key=PEUG04BZ

It has done a lot of ks for a car that is only a couple of years old. I would certainly be checking the service log.

Send me an email instead of a PM - I've enable email from my profile.

No I love to drive very much, but not my wife, so we tend to use her car, as it lives on the street,
I am thinking in changing to something different

in the red book for 2004 is still says white dials...

as for servicing, it is due for a service soon, and when he does that he is getting the seats shampoo'ed

kms - its only 30k each year, average is 20k...but he lives northside and works 30min south of bris, so its a fair hike and all highway kms...which is alright i spose

They got rid of the white dials when the 180 was released overseas. Makes sense from a manufacturing point of view for the cars to share parts. In my opinion the white dials on the 206 didn't work that well. The current ones look a whole lot better. Especially at night!

As for the mileage, my car turned 10 months the other day & I've got 31,600kms on the clock. Most of that run up in the first few months. Thank god I do a lot less mileage now! Get the car checked out by the RACQ, but if it's ok, the price is pretty decent. Check the compliance plates on the car, because I would think that it has to be less than 2 years old. The 180 wasn't released till something like August 03 overseas. So I don't see the update coming out in Australia till after then. My guess is something like October/November. But, since I haven't followed the 206 history, I could very well be wrong.

Before you do buy the car - Make sure you get it up on a hoist and have a decent inspection under the car (perhaps with a qualified mechanic by your side too). Specifically look for things that could be expensive. eg. leaking seals, corrosion on water pump, leaking power steering hoses cv joints and driveshaft's. Oh Remember that at 80K it will be up for a cam belt change too... That's not cheap!

The warranty will be running out soon (if it hasnt already) and you dont want to get lumbered with those costs. It would also make owning a Pug not a nice experience.

The mileage is pretty high for the year but I dont think that that would be a major problem.
