Default Peugeot 206 Service Indicator Light Reset Insructions

Recently when taking my Peugeot 206 GTI 180 in for its 1500km check up,
the dealer scratched my car and mucked me around no end! Obviously not
wanting to go back there and being no other dealer with 1 1/2 hours drive
i wanted my car to be serviced conveiniently!

Working for a German Spare Parts Company with a large workshop i descided
to have the car serviced there. Now at 12,000kms and not far away from
the 20,000km service i didnt want to have to take the car back to the dealer
just so the service indicator light can be switched off! I spoke to the service
department at the dealer and they told me there was no way around it and
that i would have to bring the car to them as it had to be plugged into their
    diagnostic machine!

Well after much deliberation and noticing a few guys in the UK advertising
in ebay the the instructions on how reset the light, i thought i might delve
a little deeper into how this can be done. So i have spoken to many
workshops and have finally been told how i can reset the service indicator
and thought i should share it with you all and save you the $45 charge i
was told it would cost to have this done at the dealer.

So here it is the $45 reset procedure:

    1) Put keys in Ignition
    2) without turning ignition on press & hold button on instrument cluster
    3) while holding button, turn ignition key to start but dont start engine
    4) hold ignition on & button until LCD display says 0 (zero)
    5) release button, turn ignition key off
    6) smile
    7)start engine
    8) $45 thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can only do this by the way, if the service light spanner is on
your instrument cluster. Doing this at any other time does nothing.
Hope this helps you out guys. I know i wouldnt pay $45 for this!

I will never be taking my car back to the dealer except of course
for the leaking water pump i now have!

I'm with Rambo... The instructions are in the 206 Handbook that I got with my 180. It's on page 21 if anyone is interested.

Let me guess Jason, you went to City Pug, didn't you! May I suggest Cullens @ Nambour or Classic @ Toowoomba where you will be treated like all customers should be - with respect.

There is no issue in naming a dealer if it's fact .... in most cases it's only "libel" if untrue AND malace can be proven, being defamatory is fine.

Most definitely in the book - but thanks for sharing it with us all anyway

At the very least it will save someone else from having to make lots of phone calls.

I can't believe the dealer said it required the Diag2000 to do it. That is one dealer that doesn't know their own product and everyone should avoid at all costs.

Does seem a bit strange, although I wouldn't be that surprised that the person spoken to didn't know any better.

It maybe part of the standard service procedure at this dealer to plug in the Diag 2000 machine, and therefore reset the service indicator using it as a matter of course. Maybe they have never done it the other way

    Simon
