Icon9 knocking noise from front end, 205

    Hi Guys

    any advice appreciated,
i am experiencing a knocking noise from under the bonnet driving at very low speeds, either about to stop or just pulling away in 1st. I noticed a grinding noise couple of weeks ago but this has now developed into the knocking(i think). Its 92 205 Gti 130kms and has had every service since new.
    any ideas??
    Cheers

Hope it's not Drive shafts or cv joints. Is it any different under heavy steering at low speeds?

Driveshaft would normally be "click click click" when making a turn so my guess is the gearbox level is down - top it up and see if that fixes it.

    Default Knock Knock whos there?

As Pugjet mentioned... typically your top engine mount on the cambelt side goes (unnoticed) and starts to develop a knock. Check for any rubber debrie in the area around the mount or even wear marks on the paint where the mount has been touching the body.

Other locations which create knocking are the bottom engine mount which is less visable. This also has a connecting bracket which has a rubber bush. When this gets old the actual bracket hits the sub frame. while the big mount shows cracking. Easiest to check this mount and bush on a hoist by leavering the engine back and forth from below.

Another one is the drop links for the sway bar, the lower joint on these bars wears and knocks. disconnect the bottom or top bolt and take the bar off at either end. Attempt to pull the joint apart with your hands - like what these dudes are doing with their beers and you may feel a bit of free play which will casue the knocking.

    best of luck

    Icon5 knocking from front end

well thanks guys for the feedback
any recommendations on who in sydney would be able to give an honest diagnosis of the problem without ripping me off?
Ive heard the names PQ Automotive and Gladesville prestige cars been thrown around!
What prices could I expect to pay for the replacement of:

    engine mounts
    cv joints
    drive shafts

    Cheers
