    Default Gti6 versus....

What kinda cars can the gti6 hold its own against?
I reckon the Integra type R should watch itself, its a lil too cocky for my liking. The engine is sweet, but i believe the gti6's handle is superior.
The gti6 is a sleeper if ever ive seen one. It can out corner most cars i know, with a heap of NA power to match.
Lets hear some stories of heroism from the gti6 owners, or any pug owners (205gti 306 s16/gti6/xsi 206 gti/gti180 Mi 16 etc...) of the day they embaressed owners of "seemingly" much "faster" cars.

I think you should see if Alex (WRCPUG) posts on this thread or not. I remember reading that he went up aginst some kitted up Jap hatchback. Not sure of the result.

Anyway, from my experience, cars that have unsuccessfully tried to take me on are:
    Any Magna
    Base model Commodores and Falcons
an EA/EB Falcon V8... how embarrassing for the bogan driver was THAT??
    Fully kitted out Datsun 1600
    Pug 205gti (ha ha ha!!)
    Any Holden SRI badged whatever.
Supposedly any Golf Gti/Proton GTi but I haven't the pleasure yet. guys in the UK reckon a 206GTi138 is easy pickings.
Supposedly any BMW that hasn't got an M badge on it.
Kept up with a Commodore SS ute down a freeway onramp much to the other driver's annoyance I would say.

Beaten many of the chapel St V8 bois down Dandenong Rd but only once moving. Kick the 6 down a cog or two and you are away from them very quickly but they'll still get the jump at the take off.

There have been a few threads on this topic however.

I know, but I have easily outdone my mate in a 323i. Go figure. A 325 is 0-60mph In 7.4 secs. 135mph max. which is pretty close. Not sure about 5-series, anyone got stats??

Oh and a GTi6 should outdo a 1-series just running on 1 cylinder.

    What about a 130i or a 120d?

Anyways, what does the GTI6 do the 0-100 sprint in?

its not just the p platers, any frustrated middle aged businessmen who drive commodores and think theyre shit hot kos they have six pistons

although nothing gives me greater satisfaction then spanking an ET commo with green p plates (kos the owner is far, FAR too cool for the legal red ones)

how many p platers need a large family sedan anyway?

i think ill always be one of those ppl who drives the subtle underrated rocket-pug

The GTi6 does 0-60mph in 7.2 secs. The stripped out Rallye in UK does it in 6.8.

The reason why commodore are so popular among p platers is that they are cheap, decently quick and easy on the pocket to get parts for!

I personally wouldnt get one for the fact that being a p-plater and paying for the petrol in such a large car would cost mega bucks, id rather be driving somthing more fuel efficient!

    They arent such bad cars!

I'm curious about that too. Someone mentioned on Aussie Frogs that S16s go a bit quicker from 0-100 then GTi6s - IS that right or am I imagining things.... I'd imagine that'd be fairly equal.

i thought the '6 does mid 8s to high 8s for the 100 k dash and high 15s for the quarter dash?

    can anyone verify this?

    That's what I thought too.

Not gonna flame you Stonefree if I can't back it up with evidence, but I think 7.2 is a little ambitious.

    As for non M BMW's, and we'll restrict it to Aus delivered 3 series cars well, E30 325is, E36 325iM and 328iM/A; E46 325tiM, 325CiM 328CiM and 330iA or CiM/A should all beat the Gti6 in a straight line.

    Someone mentioned 130i - I want one

you see thats where the general public get it all wrong... they see the paper figures and obviously dont take into consideration other factors. even with average paper figures for the gti6, it consitantly wins hothatch shoot outs, etc, etc. therefore, the gti6 is obviously more of a weapon when the blacktop gets kinky.

but hey a well driven gti6 with a decent launch would probably hall arse hardcore.

In terms of the traffic light grandprix though, they aint too special... but hey, that's not what it's all about, is it

uhuh... even though the gti6s and s16s were 16valvers they were so torquey (similar to our 8vlver 205gtis) through low and mid range, itd hall through and splice through traffic like a banshie! and still rev hard through to the red line like there was no tomorrow.

Any Italian V6 has a sexy exhaust note, the exhaust note has been known to cause the driver's right foot to develop a heaviness that is hard to explain!
