    ABS curiosity

This arvo we had a down pour ... the kind that leaves gutters over flowing and puddles several inches deep. Well I was out in it and hit a few of these puddles - not at a stupid speed but plenty fast enough to have a shower of water going each side of the car ... and then the indicators started flashing as if the ABS had activated (its a Pug Multiplex feature) - wasn't braking at the time.

Most probably the wheel change in speed made the CPU think the ABS was operating .

Any one else had this (esp the Melbournites) ?

Since the ABS system uses a sensor to sense IMPENDING loss of traction, maybe you lost drive to enough wheels to cause the sensors on the diffs to think you had the same traction-loss problems? I realise these two things seem to be opposite functions, but could this be a cheap way of wiring up the warning feature?

Haven't had this problem before. IIRC someone mentioned it on the 206 list last year.

The only time I've had the emergency indicators flash when they weren't meant to (ie. hard deceleration) was when I was trying out some left foot braking to test that throttle by wire system for you guys

BTW - we actually have less rain in MEL than in SYD or BNE. Today we finally had some decent rain, probably just enough to keep up hovering above the trigger for Stage II water restrictions.

Seems like madness, eh? Water restrictions in Melbourne

Why does EVERY person in Melbourne say this? We all know Melbourne get more rainy days than Sydney. Yeah, it might rain more volume here, but when it rains there is rarely an if or but about it. It just rains, and we know it. 4 season in one day, what a pain!

:p sorry, bait laid and taken

Hey, you know there are better ways to bait me

I've been dealing with reps up in SYD & BNE in addition to MEL, and anecdotally, I suspect there have been more rainy days up north.

    This year is particularly bad.

Has anyone noticed that Queenslanders have no idea how to estimate temperature? Either that, or I'm dealing with a special bunch It's just something I've found with our Queensland reps - they just freeze on the spot when I ask them what the temperature is roughly - can't even estimate to 10C!!!

I did come across one rep that could estimate the temperature, but then I found out he was originally from SYD

I wasn't baiting you, I just took your bait

I can understand Queenslanders not being able to estimate temperature, it's never anything other than in the 20s 30s or 40s there. That, and, they're Queeslanders wink Sorry, couldn't resist that either. Us sydneysiders really are w*nkers.

I think the system would of seen a possible fault in the brakes as one wheel was traveling slower than the others but u were not braking. If you ever go on a dyno, the ABS light stays on constantly as the front wheels are spinning but the rears are stopped.

I think your explanation is probably correct ... but hard to test. Dealer doesn't know. The dyno doesn't do anything cause I know fellow 206GTi owners who have done dyno runs, without an issue.
