Hi guys,
I`m in the process of buying a 205 GTI. The last few 205's that i`ve looked at, all have had a rough idle on start up.

Is this normal?
What can be done to fix it?

"Anything else is a Compromise!"
Its a normal occurrence.
There are many different theories on why it occurs but noone ever seems to be able to rectify it.
Its a fact of life when owning a 205.
Anyway, what are you doing idling in a 205 anyway? wink![]()

Umm, my 205 has no rough idle, neither does Ashleys.
Maybe the Mtronic ecu has cured the problem.
Were all the cars you tested Series 1 cars?

That could be true Parry.
That is what I believe it is; a problem with the Jetronic computer.

Neither does mine man... I imagine these cars that are for sale haven't been recently serviced. As soon as the eng. is turned on the auto choke comes on and raises the revs to 1000 but it settles with in 30 - 40 seconds and is nice. All of the Pug. engines are a little tappy if you know what i'm trying 2 say when they're started and aren't as quiet as other makes but don't let that stop you!! BUY THE PUG!!!!!
