    604

    All,

Just a quick note *if anyone cares* I just got another car to add to my ever growing Pug collection !

I got a very very nice condition 604, with new water pump, webber carbie, and heaps of other work done to it!

The car is a very late model one...with the round fuel filler cap...I am very happy...and have had a nice night cruising the streets of Hobart in it

round fuel cap is series one
check your rear interior lights they should be vertical for series 2
in series 1 they are horizontal
also series 2 have extra vents where these lights are as well where as the series 1 doesn't have these
front doors are slightly different as well between the series 1 and 2
tail lights also have different hole spacings as well
also depending on what was lying around when they were built the series 1 missed out on the extra ducting under the front seats for the heater

the 604 is undoubtably one of the most comfortable cars to drive and ride in
in standard form and in good nick they handle pretty well but they are no sports car
but in saying that there is a lot that can be done to them
but if you want a car to cruise from point a to point b and hop out fresh they are the car to have
they seem to cover a lot of ground with ease
my other 1/2 had never driven a pug before she got hers and she fell in love with it
she has never driven my car as she is afraid of something happening to it lol

The 604 is a 1981 Model...I thought the round filler was series 2 ? the earlier ones we have tucked away for parts have the square filler caps ?

    Well where to begin....

It's still got the damn standard Solex carbies on it, and it bauks like a sod if you take off too fast !
I got it from the President of the Peugeot Car Club down here, he has spent $$$ on it, new exhaust, starter motor re-built, alternator re-built, new water pump etc

I also got a webber carbie to go on it, yet to be fitted!

But I am having MAJOR battery problems with it ! so I will have to sort that out first of all !

    Cheers!

    check your regulator
it is located on the drivers side behind the headlights
if you are going to run a weber on it grab an air cleaner from a 2l escort or cortina (plastic blue ones normally) they fit on with a little modification and you can run a cold air intake down to the front of the car easily off it
also i advise trying to find a single carb manifold for it as well
they are around you just need time to search them out
they were on the swedish 8.2:1 comp models and they only had a single dual thraot carb on them unlike the crap setup we got here
then grab a dissy from an odd fire ovlov including the grey box that goes with it and throw that at the car (not literally )
i am in the process of working out a design for extractors as well right now so i'll keep you posted on that as well
also if you need a sunroof seal give arthor rubber and foam a call in wagga wagga in nsw
the seals are around the $25-30 mark plus postage
genuine seals if you can get them are over $100 last time i looked into it

    Sean,

Jim Lill in the US has just purchased a set of factory 504 V6 rally car extractors (or headers as they are always called in the US). He wants to use them as a pattern to get a batch of them made for various people. I think the LHD ones might not fit RHD cars due to the steering column (not sure). I've been thinking of emailing Jim and asking him for the exact diameters, lengths, etc, and for photos of them, to get an idea of what is required. From these we could get a batch made locally for RHD cars. I plan to convert my 505 to a V6 in a couple of years, and I know one or two others who may also be interested in a set of extractors. I don't have any money at the moment, but in 6 months time, I might be willing to put some money on the table (in conjunction with others) to have a group batch made up. This would work out alot cheaper than just having a one off set made. Graham Wallis and Rob Cherry in Victoria would also probably be interested in being involved.

    Sean,

Here's a list of people (apart from you and I) who will probably or may(?) be interested in V6 extractors in the next 12 months or so:

    Graham Wallis
    Rob Cherry
    Norm Smith
    Brendan Rogers
Ian Brock? (I think he's already got a set)
    Con Engel?
    Steve Palocz?

There's probably one or two others who want some too. If we could get 10 sets or so made that would significantly reduce the costs involved.

    Sean,

Yeah, I remember seeing your extractors on that silver car at your fathers place in Moss Vale about 5 years ago. I didn't realise that Norm has them now. I guess he got them when he picked up all that stuff from Owen Wuilleman.

What camshaft did you have in that silver 504?

Sorry, being a PRV V6, that should have been camshafts (not camshaft).

i can't remember what grind i had on them now or how much lift they had
i know it took a bit of chasing to come up with the ones that i did
maybe if norm checks them out for us we can get some more made up the same
i know they are a damn good setup for that engine though
that engine i had in that car was about the best PRV V6 i had ever had the pleasure of squeazing the loud pedal
the dissy on that engine was still twin points but was modified and had vaccuum advance removed
the heads were also ported out a little
the engine went to 7000rpm pretty nicely but rarely needed to as the power really kicked in at around 4000rpm
all this chatting i am going to have to start playing with my spare engine lol
i'm sure my g/f would love her 604 to have a really sweet sound and more horses

    cool
have you made sure that it is charging ?
i did the same thing only a few months ago in the middle of sunny downtown melbourne
we had one 604 on a trailor ready to take home and the other sitting there not going
we exchanged alternators over as ours had died on the way down thinking that it had died and continued on our way only to work out when we got home that it was the regulator and not the alternator
just wish we had thought of that before changing alternators out
would have saved a lot of time and skin

Yes, put me down for a set.
I am running the car in a dirt hillclimb this weekend, first run with the even fire, let you know how it goes.

don't worry ben i'm sure you'll be able to drive it occasionally. Heard you've sold your nice green machine too (good little car that one, will be missed!).
Anyway i'm now co-owner of the 604 because Pug403's my other half.
