We might be getting the 107, but that thing looks like a van that was cut in half cry .

ipb, you're right!
No, that sticker on the front (and rear too) is a Peugeot Sport logo like you'll find here: http://www.peugeotsportuk.com/

MarkA, if you want some stickers for your car send me an e-mail and I'll send you some

hrm, New Zealand! I wonder how much that would cost to import? Ar there many in NZ? were they ever sold in NZ at the dealers...?

A friend of mine is importing a japaneese car from Japan, he is paying about $8-10,000 less for it, and another friend imported a Mustang from the US it cost him just $10,000 and it's already been converted to a RHD, beautiful nick too wink 67 Fastback wink

yeah i looked into this, not worth it as the recent laws are making it very hard and even more expensive.
The entire cost would yeild a excelent 306 Gti-6 or a 205 with a modded Mi-16 transplant and then some.
Would be diferent though.. Xq

It is indeed a 1997 106 GTI. Saxo & 106 shared a common chassis, there is a HUGE rivalry between 106's & Saxo's over here, lot's of people modify Saxo's to extreme's to try to be different, but as they are so much cheaper than 106's they are "looked down on".

They are sold with 1 or 2 years free insurance & 0% finance so lot's of kid's by them...........

106 GTI = The real GTI!!!

yeah nice Mark lots of good news read about these little rockets.
I wanted one, but cost ruled this out, my S16 does nice though.
I'd have to get 2 though, 1st to leave 100% as-is, 2nd to go full GrpA everything, and go cicuit racing.
You know Balanced and blueprinted block, crank etc, higher comp pistons, stage3 head, dual throttle bodies, headers to match, Motec ECU, fueling to match, Quicksilver G/box with GrpN clutch and drive shafts, Bilstein tramac spec suspention, with tarox-6 pot brake convertion, runing Speedline 16" on yoko A rubber slicks, totaly stripped interior, lexan windows, no rear wiper or working lights, 6 point roll cage 1 sparco race seat and 5 point harness. just anice sunday driver.. bit of a prob with the MOT though aye?

Yes but not as fun as the original, some late understeer out of coners thats about it, as quick as a gti-6 in a straight line and about as nimble in the corners,
needs better gearing as the ratios are a little too long, and i didn't think much of the seats, loved the supercharger whine though.
cheers Xq
Mark? i also wanted to ask , is that a Pipercross filter you fitted, and a diferent back box too?

Mate, would love to find out more details about "how" your friend went about this .... e.g. source, importer, how to arrange, cost break down etc. In fact any info would be appreciated. pls email me if ok.

Chris - your specs look awesone for the 106GTI, however wouldn't 6 pot calipers be a overkill? These are on Monaro GTO's and are the business. Thats asside...would look like some serious mumbo if fitted tongue

Re Mini Cooper S, we have one at work. It's the bosses car but he lets me take it for a spin. I wrote the following back in October of last year.

I have had 2 decent runs (350kms total) in the Cooper S in the past week. These are my thoughts
First 3 gears are very tall. 110kms/h in 2nd . This makes it quite dificult to pull smoothly off the line while staying under 2000rpm. The final 3 gears are not all that tall though. 5th is the same as my S16 and 6th only drops 700rpm, so you cruise at 2300rpm at 100kms/h. The engine is beautifully smooth all the way to 7000rpm (it is a BMW engine afterall). I dropped it back to 3rd at 120kms/h on the freeway and it had heaps of pull in it.
The engine is a fireball between 3000 and 6000rpm but below it seriously lacks touque and above it becomes quite asthmatic taking forever to get to 7000rpm where there is a soft cutout. The supercharger sounds nice, not too invasive either.
The throttle response is very BMW'ish. You feel quite detracted from the engine when you ask for immediate power or try to blip the throttle. I HATE the location of the tacho...absolutly pointless for a car angled toward performance.
The onroad feel is great, very taught and responsive yet absorbs bumps with authority and does not get out of shape when hitting holes deep into corners. In the fun-stuff, the car feels very tail-light. This car would be a serious lift-off over-steerer. I got the arse out sideways when braking hard on an offramp!!!
Power application is very nice on tighter corners, but it will start to push out and understeer if you go in to hard. A slight lift-off will pull the front back in though.
Compared to my S16, the Cooper S would be a quicker car in a straight line, but I don't think I would have the confidence in the ability of it's rear end to hold the speeds the S16 can on roads such as Mt Glorious. If I could have the S16 interior, controls, grip, gearbox and stearing feel with the Cooper S ride quality, engine and finish I would be a happy man.

Thanks for that.

It has given me a good insight into the CooperS. It still sounds like a lot of fun, I think I may test-drive one soon. I am also interested in the driving position and what it's like to drive with that modern-retro interior.

Very observant of you!! It is a Janspeed S1 stainless steel exhaust from the cat back. They are twin 3" pipes out of the back box.

It is indeed a Pipercross induction kit.

PS. You have mail!!

DeKa,

Got the stickers in the mail on Saturday morning!

Many thanks!

Will have to clean the car up & post a picture of them!

Ohh very nice. If we had 106s here I'd definately get one. I'd love to fly by crappy V6s off the line and lose em on the corners.
