    Help 505 wagon diff

after many noisy miles i have deceded to replace the diff on my 505 sli wagon
i obtained a good complete diff from a freind from a 504 wagon
after consideration it was decided that i would be able to use the 504 diff centre with my 505 axles and outer tubes.
ok so idid this and everthing seemed to line up ok until i noticed that there was a great deal of play when you rocked the wheels side ways, no big deal just replace the wheel bearings and seal kits as well as retaining ring.
after all this i thougt i would have a good rear axle set up only to find that the play is still their on both rear wheels
it seems as though the axles do not fit into the 504 diff bearing and thus rock back and forth
the car cannot be driven as the play is that great
    what is going on here????

no it was a complete brake to brake set up for a wagon
although having said this it may have been changed at one stage!!!!

    Hi John

The 504 wagon diff centre should work fine. I fitted one in my old sLi without any problems.

I'm trying to get an image in my head of just which way things are moving. I can pop around and take a look if you like. Short of incredibly bad splines or major internal failure I find it hard to think of any possible cause.

If you want to take a look at my now 'spare" 504/505 rear axle / diff assembly to see what it should be like drop me a line or give me a call.

    Cheers

    Rod
