Default Mi16x4 for sale in Vic.

Paul from Auto Paris has indicated he wants to sell his. As far as I know, it's one of only two in Australia. A quote from the Mi16 forum.

"if anybody in oz is wanting one, im unfortunately THINKING of selling mine as I have to many toys, and im not selling my Renault 8 gordini over it, this would have to be one of the best cars I have owned... apart from my gordini..
if any body is interested drop me a line....
by the way only realistic offers please...
    regards paul."

I know paul's car very well as he is my mechanic. Its a great little car. He has completely re-built the gearbox, nice devil exhaust, all new black diamond brakes. The interior is alittle old but otherwise a great car

As a bonus I recall the Mi16x4 having *real* suspension under the back of it

About 10years ago when my father was in the UK he had a friend there who was a Citroen mechanic. He was GIVEN a BX 4x4 (basically the same car as above). The car was absolutely perfect it even had black leather interior. The reason it was given to him It had rusty pipes through to it's rear suspension (a common problem over the with salted roads).

He wrecked the car Pulled a few bits off it and sent it through the crusher

Imagine how much a perfect in every way BX 4wd with leather interior, mags etc, etc ... would be worth out here. I imagine a lot of 405 4wd's died in the same manner.

Apparantly the transfer box in them is extremely frail, so you would need to check it extremely well.

Paul told me a few months ago that he has a spare transfer case to go with it. Just as well, you wouldn't want to have to locate one for sale...

The rear end is the same as a BX but with only one sphere, so it's easy to service. As for the transfer box, I'm not sure. Mine has been driven vigoursly and is no worse for wear. The rear calipers are also unique. I have a spare set of those. The hardest thing to get is the two piece speedo cable. They are like rocking horse sh*t. I've got all the Peugeot factory service manuals if needed.

As for a price guide, I'd say $12-$18K. Mine is a low km car but needs a paint and re-upholstering, as it has spent most of its life outside. Another buyer who wanted mine was willing to pay $18K with that work done.

I guess by 'frail' they mean if you side step the clutch at 5500rpm in 1st to launch it quickly it will not last long I'm only repeating what I have heard on various bulletin boards when I say there frail.

That's incredible. There are lots of x4's (relatively) in New Zealand. You could probably pick one up anywhere from $3000NZD to $5000NZD for a nice one.

The thought of someone paying $18,000, even $12,000 for one seems rediculous.

I considered going to NZ to get one, but they changed the import rules to stop grey imports. I think cars have to be over 30yrs. old now.

Are these the MI 16 model?
There was another basic model with an 8 valve engine and a less sophisticated transmission.

    Yes these are Mi16x4's.

When I was at high school a guy had one, and I have seen numerous around. kiwi03 has mentioned there is about a 50/50 ratio of front wheel drive Mi16's and x4's in Christchurch.

I saw one go for $3995 a little while ago.

There are also a few 8 valve GLx4's around. I saw one go for around $1500NZD last year. There is currently one that is going for $2000-2700 but he won't get it as I have seen no interest in the car. 405's are cheap, I bought my SRi for $1550 and that was on the expensive side. You could buy an 8 valve 405 for anywhere between $900-3000. They're getting old and I don't believe they should be expensive.

    Too right they are!

I had a brief ride in Peter T's car several years ago, I can't believe Owen would sell it... but he 'tested the waters' for a long time too, eventually sheer car numbers won the day.

I'm very disappointed he never got around to sticking his race engine in it and putting some good tyres on it for a rollick around the circuits. It was threatened...

I reckon we have got it good here. I think when I bought my Mi16 last year it was the countrys most expensive 405 at $8000, but it was a 95 and had only done 124000 km so I took a (very) deep breath and bought it, knowing I could get a 406 for not much more.

12 -18000 here will get you a good Porsche 944, and there was a Alpine GTA in last Saturday's paper for $15000.(and yes I was tempted!!)

Actually, there's 2 here in Adelaide that I know of. One is a red one, it lives somewhere near where I do and I see it quite regularly. It was for sale about a year ago, for about $9000, from memory I dont think it sold. It had even just had all the spheres serviced, and i think it was fitted with a T16 central viscous coupling? There is another white one getting around in the eastern suburbs, though I dont know anything about it.

Rumour has it that they were both Australian delivered through Taylors. Both are early models.

Well I found out that he IS looking to sell it and for very good reason. The car's perfect, Paul just needs room for the new flagship for Autoparis and I think it's going to set some tongues wagging everywhere once the secret's out.

You won't believe what they're going to put together!

    Default mi 16

Scott does the red mi16x4 you speak of have the number plate "Allez"? I saw that one once and it looked alright, didn't know it was a x4 though. what colour is your car? I don't see too many mi16s in adelaide, only from time to time. I see a white one around the eastern subs a bit which I think has a non-standard spoiler, also saw a nice looking maroon one a few weeks back on main north road.

    cheers,
