Icon4 Peugeot and Mitsubishi to officially cooperate !!!!

PSA officially announced that something is getting prepared between the group and japanese automaker Mitsubishi !!!!

Next week PSA chairman will go to Japan to sign the "deal"...

It has to do with 4WD/SUV vehicles, but not only(I've read that PSA would spend around 2 billions dollars in its Mitsubishi projects )

We will know everything after next week appointment anyway...

Slightly disturbing, of all the main Japanese manufacturers for PSA to deal with, Mitsubishi would be the last on my list.

Not a bad idea a 4WD associated with Peugeot. I'm wanting our next family car to be a new Pug, probably a 307 tourer, although my wife wants something bigger. So it looks like we both might have our own way. And as our last 2 cars have been Mitsubishi's (forgive me ) and we have not had any troubles with them, she should be easy to convince.

    Here's hoping.

Peugeot has been looking for a partner to build a soft roader for a while now. It makes financial sense. That segment of the new car market is growing rapidly, and the market for traditional car styles is getting smaller. This means that by having 4x4s the other car makers are tapping into Peugeot's market share & thus profits.

Having a partner in this project has the economy of scale, alleviates some of the financial risk to Peugeot & also by teaming up with Mitsubishi (which has been doing 4WDs & soft roaders for years) they get access to a wealth of experience in the class.

If peugeot go on to make a suv type of vehicle they might be able to sell them in the US.

I was reading Car Magazine sometime ago, and I remember the boss of peugeot saying they would never build a SUV

In fact, we are all talking about Peugeot...

...But who knows that it wouldn't be CitroŽn only to have its SUV????

With the hydraulic suspensions the make is having(on the C5) that would be interesting

Furthermore, rumours are talking about a return of Cit in rally-raids(Dakar and others) from 2006...that would make even more sense for the Chevrons to have their 4WD vehicle(s)!!

I read him quoted as saying that they wouldn't build one ALONE, but were open to the possibility of a joint venture.

And about engines... A joint venture doesn't mean the driveline will be the same in both vehicles. Look at the Porsche/VW. They both run different engines. The Pugs will probably run their own diesels & 6s.

Just because they will share basic architecture, the cars won't necessarily be completely identical. A "platform" could be as simple as shared componentry or vehicle hardpoints (floor plan & firewalls). Look at the Colt/Smart, or even the 307/C4.

    Default Pug SUV

Hi all, I too had heard that Peugeot was looking for a SUV partner to build around 30000 cars annually. The other rumour I had heard was that Peugeot was to supply Ford OZ V6 engines & FWD for their Falcons.A Ford employee was surprised that I knew of this as he was/is aware of this too ,a couple of years ago.

    It's done(announced yesterday)!!!!!

Mitsubishi will build a new SUV for PSA, available in 2007...
This new vehicle will be based upon the new Outlander sold in the USA and will be powered by PSA/Ford HDI/FAP engines(for Europe).

30 000 4WD badged(repowered and redesigned) Peugeot and CitroŽn per year will be made at this time.

    Sources
    PSA website and http://europe.autonews.com

I'm surprised by some comments in my topic
I personnally thought many people(including Australians) were waiting for a 4WD car from PSA!!

I thought Australia/NZ are used to buying a lot of this kind of vehicles like in the USA
