    Default Nice!

Translation (such as it is...) :

"This Barchetta which intrigued already the journalists of the Team in May 1956 you is undoubtedly méconnue. Exemplaire single, it at summer sold in the Sixties by its creators, my grandfather Marcel GOUX and his brother, my large uncle Maurice GOUX.

Its design goes up at the beginning of the Fifties; brothers GOUX had then a garage Peugeot in the 3rd district of Paris.Étant originating in Doubs, the stronghold of Peugeot, the family will remain faithful to the mark, adding victories in race, customers preparation and ideas innovative as regards engines like contest of elegance.

The car presented here, the GF, for "GOUX Frères" is the only creation signed of Marcel and Maurice GOUX, after having worked a long time on the cars of the others (MG of veuillet in 1946 and 202 Darl' Mat of the records in 1947). This level, like habit at the time, the base of their prototype was to be a mass-production car which they knew well to have prepared it with all sauces: 203.

The line of the GF falls under the category "tank", very appreciated of Chenard & Walcker or Bugatti... the body was formed with the hand by the carriage-builder of the garage, Albert Dalamano, better working of France and still in aujourd' activity today (it débosse my cars!).

Entirely out of aluminium, it is painted in light blue. The frame of the 203 guard its dimensions of origin, it is especially the engine which was the object of the care of brothers GOUX; the cubic capacity is increased to 1460 Cm3, the cylinder head is equipped special detubulures, the conduits were worked over again and the made reliable unit.

On bets, garage GOUX Frères was one of rare to have a bench of power, which was worth to them to be requested by the manufacturers, the equipment suppliers, the runners and the journalists "to pass to the bench" any mechanical solution aiming at improving the performances of the cars.

It was thus easy for them to know if modif were valid or not. How reports it the newspapers of 56, the GF was able to turn in cruising to 150 Km/h in Monthléry, making fall from the stopwatches with a turn (2,548 km) in 52", that is to say close to 176km/h of average! Dash speed superior to 200Km/h, remarkable figure for the time and an engine resulting from the great series.

Preparers of 203 brothers GOUX had already made fall three international records in Montlhéry with a truck prepared in 1950 (1431 Cm3, carburizing Zenith, Nardi pipe, lubricating system compensated for SPK and Englebert tires), with 132Km/h of average over twelve hours. They had also prepared one 203 commercial (1955) for a African raid of 30 000Kms whose crew had the characteristic to be entirely female.

One also counts with their credit, a superb performance of regularity to the Turn of France car or the sharpening of one 203 which traversed the complete layout of the Rally of Assembles-Carlo without opening the cap!

Heredity: The name of GOUX should not be unknown those which are interested in the pioneers of the automobile competition. Indeed Jules GOUX, is one of the first French automobile champions to have gained in the United States (Indianapolis in 1913).

This victory over Peugeot will make of him the fastest man of the world (it was in times or the cars went more quickly than the planes!). He will sign well other victories and records on of Peugeot with his fellow-members "the charlatans" the brothers Boillot, Zuccarelli, etc but also on other marks like Ballot or Bugatti.

The destiny did not have any more which has to interfere. Following a rail crash, two named small children Marcel and Maurice GOUX find themselves orphan of father and put under the supervision of their uncle... Jules GOUX. The honnor rolls of school will quickly make place with the cuts of victories in great price... Rosengart, Ravel, Mathis, Voisin, Bugatti, Gregoire were one day or the other dependent in the name of GOUX.

    This happens the world over.

Dedicated enthusiasts adapt and change cars and their components to create a magnicent vehicle like this one.

What a pity there isn't more detail - just the attention to detail and the finish of the body - predicts what the rest of the car would be like.

The 203 engine is unmistakable !

Thanks for the link and the translation Ray.
