    Default Rear Engine Seal Leak

    Hello All

My XD2 diesel has developed a BAD oil leak (literally 5 litres in 50kms!), seems to be at the rear of the engine where it mates the gbox. I suspect it is the rear crank seal.

Can the seal be replaced with out removing the crank? as it is in two halves?
Anyone shed some light on this?
If the crank has to come out what else should be replaced?

    Steve

You can change the rear main oil seal without removing the crank, Its a gearbox & flywheel off job though.

Then while its in bits you might as well stick a new 3 part clutch assy in.

If its an XU engine, It could also be the 2 hockey stick oil seals under the main crank bearing cap directly behind the flywheel, Thats a sump off job to do.

What do you call a XU engine?

Three piece clutch kit? Basically the whole clutch assy?

    thanks

Hi what Pug have you got?

An XUD is the 1.8 or 1.9 diesel or turbo diesel engine fitted to 205s, 309s, most diesel 306s, 405s, Most of the 406 diesels.

Yes I do mean the whole clutch assy, If your taken the gearbox out to change the seal behind the flywheel, It would make good sense to stick a new clutch in at the same time.

    Default 504

Thanks, I see the logic in replacing the clutch.

The XD2 is out of 504 sedan, although I have it in my 504 famil wagon, along with it's matching gearbox. It is not a turbo.

Looks like I better start ordering seals and clutch kits.
