    Default Wrong Tyres

Just had my heat shield bolted back on (at last the rattle is gone) - drove away from the service center and found that the rear of the car was making a helicopter type sounds (chop, chop , chop , chop ......). Took my 306 S16 back only to be told that the 195 wheels are to big and are collecting the plastic wheel arch protectors.

OK - I didn't put the tyres on (only had the car for a short time). The service center has given me two choices

    1) get 185s
    2) Cut the plastic to allow more room

The S16 as original fitment are 195/55 R15.I think it would be unwise to move from this size as you don't want to alter the set up and handling characteristics , which I think is just spot on.

If the wheels are standard and the tyre size is correct as above , I can,t understand them touching the plastic within the wheel arch.If the previous owner fitted 60 or 65 series tyres which would make them slightly wider and taller they may touch. If this isn't the case then I suspect the plastic inner guard protector has come adrift slightly and moved .You will need to take the wheels off and have a look to check that everything is in place properly.

Does it have aftermarket wheels, if so the offset may be wrong.

the tyres are 195/55 R15. So I guess the plastic guard has dropped.

Is it hard to put the guards back into the correct place ?

195/55/15 are spot on, the plastic guards clip on with plastic clips. Simlple, but you need to remove each wheel to inspect (make sure it is the plastic guard) and remount. - Chris

The tyre had cut a nice hole into the plastic about the size of a thumb. Looked like the bottom of the plastic guard had a L shaped hook which wasn't holding onto much. The service guy decided that it was better to cut away a section of the guard. He noted that 195/55/15 are correct for the car but he also suggested that some tyres company tyres can very in size. The tyres on my car are something called FEDERALS.
