    Default 504 v8 upgrade.

I used to own a 504 familiar and loved the ride. I would like to get a sedan this time. Does anybody no if you can have v8 auto /air conversions . What would this likely cost. John

I know of two V8 conversions into 504s...

Paul Quinn did one for rallying back in the seventies using a P76 engine, and the same engine was used by a guy in Brocklehurst in a road car a few years ago.

I think that car's for sale... though I'm not sure.

Paul Quinn used the Pug gearbox, the 4-speed, while the other one used a Supra box, I think.

Not easy, the engine's a bit long etc.

Better to look at a V6, and if you're not happy with a Peugeot or Volvo V6 there are plenty of nice Japanese ones out there which would do nicely.

the engine bay of a 504 is big enough to acomadatate a V8 engine, and it has been done before, though peugeot has never made a V8 so any conversion would be looking at a donk from a diffrent manufacturer and would be fairly dificult. why not look at the PRV V6, plus a trimatic.

as for pictures of the V8 504 i think ray is talking about, check out this link http://www.meniscus.net/V8-504/

Bellhousing fabricated from 9mm steel plate? No wonder it sits so low!

It's definitely not one I've heard of... carry on...

i don't know if the V8 is an allowed conversion anymore

you would have to check with the RTA if you are thinking down that path

ones that have already been done on the other hand are still allowed to run and also if i am correct in my assumption regarding the laws then that would make the current V8 504/'s hold theor value a little better if and when they ever became available

    forgot to add

i do remember a 3500 powered 504 that was up for sale back in the early 90's that i was very tempted to get and at that stage had had the engine in place in that car for around 8-9 years, possibly the one that Quinn did

a couple of 604's i know have had straight 6 holden engines and V8 holden engines put in them

the holden V8 is a neat fit in the 604 but i fear it would make the car a little nose heavy

there is also a bloke on this board that has put a jap engine into a 505
