    Default 505 electric cooling/aircon fan

The said cooling fan on my 505 SR self destructed with much noise on a trip to Port Macquarie. I replaced it with a universal cooling fan from Burson's, but have found that the aircon goes AWOL at idle and the engine temp goes up.

My logic suggests that the airflow output isn't enough.
Does anyone know about the horsepower of fans needed for 505's?
Does it need to be a genuine Pug part (SEV Marchal I think?)
Can new Pug ones be got? How much?
Fans from wreckers would be near use-by too - can they be rejuvenated?

    Any help gratefully received.........

you can try and rejuvinate it

when pulled apart you will find it will be full of black dust

the bearings are simple the simple brass bush type and when these wear the motor then polls and fails to work and basically shorts itself out

at one end you will find 4 brushes and these are generally ok

the best bet is to pull it apart and clean it all up and make some new bearings or maybe your local auto spark my know of some from something else that will fit and then put it all back together

i have a dead one here from a 604 that i have been looking at for the last couple of weeks after it blew up and i replaced it with another one i had here and the above results are what i have found so far with the old one

the old one got to the point where it blew fuses almost instantly and was very tight to turn manually

    Malcolm,
Is there a chance that the fan is running backwards? it would be blowing forward instead of drawing air through the radiator.
If so just reverse the fan wiring.
Why it affects the air con I can't say.

    Default 505 electris fan

I replaced the electric fan on my 505 SRD turbo diesel with a generic fan purchased from Repco and it now runs cooler than ever so I would say that you do not NEED to use the genuine Peugeot fan. Doing a lot of driving along gravel roads I was constanly plauged with the problem of broken fan blades on the original but this does not seem to happen with the Australian unit, possibly because I have mounted it in a higher position.
