    306 windscreens

has anyone had a windscreen put in their 306's yet ?
mine is a 98 model and i noticed today that a crack has appeared from a stone chip underneath the wiper
one minute the screen was good the next the crack appeared and the chip has been there for months
the car must know that is dur for it's first pink slip in jan
mind you i have to get a pair of tyrefor t aswell adtill have originals on the rear that used to be on the front and have done nearly 90k's which i thought was pretty good mileage out of them for P6000's
tyres that i have never been entirely happy with especially in the wet but anyway that is digressing away from the topic
any ideas on windscreens would be helpfull
    thank you guys and gals

We put a screen in a CX a while back. I think it was from a Pilkingtons Glass franchise and I had been told all sorts of horror stories by owners who had put genuine in. My other vehicle, a Ford Spectron was $175 and the one for the CX, tinted I think was around $165 so I'd check them out before I went near a Pug dealer & had a heart attack

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!

I remember a 306 owner in the Peugeot Car club got his replaced.

It was over $2000 and took a while to get in the country.

Mainly because the Rain Sensor is integral to the screen and must be replaced with it.

    Best of luck though.

Wont your insurance company cover it?
Or do australian insurance companies not give that option of free replacement of glass without an excess?

Yikes! The rain-sensor option on a MERCEDES of all things is only about $300!

Personally I find the rain sensor one of the less useful gadgets in the car ... its okay when the rain is constant, but in showers it's always too slow. If my windscreen broke and I had to pay $2000 for a rain-sensing windscreen I'd gladly ask for the standard intermittent wipers instead, and pocket the difference!

    thanks guys
ok i rang around a few places
O'briens will repair cracks if they are less than 120mm long. this has something to do with the australian standards
a windscreen for a 306 with rain sensor is $290-$335 depending upon if the seals need replacing around the screen or not
    if they do add $10
i also found out that there are 51 screens in the country for '98 mod 3 door 306's
i didn't ask why or if there is a difference between 3 door or any other 306 of that vintage i just let the fella ramble on while he was happy doing so
the sensor in the 306 from what i can see looks like it sits on the inside of the glass and not actually in the screen
correct me if i am wrong please
and i don't seem to have any trouble with the operation of it and it's a good trick when you have someone in the car and they don't realise about the wipers and they watch when you are driving and see that you don't touch anything when you come to a set of lights or something and they see the wipers slow or stop and you haven't moved your hands
i was also told that you can't get a windsreen with a band across the top either for these cars as it upsets the sensor
    oh well
