    Default Mi16 Speed

hey i have a question about the top speed of an Mi16.

ive had my Mi16 up 165Km/h at about 5000rpm, i was wondering how fast they really go. as it wasn't really struggling.

not that im saying speeding is good and all that ill go out and try to reach the top speed in my car, im just wondering what sorts of speeds they can reach?

My 406 ST (similar motor, heavier car) was still pulling at 190 kph. I reckon it would have cracked 220 easily if I had had enoungh road.

I've gotten 210 kph in mine, easily. very smooth & stable at that speed too.
    I think 220 is it's limit.

Didn't know they had such looongggg steep down hills there . 190km/h sounds about right for a 4cylinder weighty car (about the same as the old CX), but unless it's a peaky lightweight (eg: series I BX16valve 160hp) I seriously doubt those last 20km/h would be possible. Even then in the likes of the BX you'd need a loooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg bit of road, or some serious downhill to get the last 10km/h out of it.

Totally pointless anyway (unless your in NT). However I have heard of this 20year old Citroen CX that's still pulling hard at 220km/h I wouldn't want to be in *any* car if something went wrong at that sort of velocity.

i have attained 210km/h from the Mi-16 i used to have and at one time i did hit 220km/h in it

these speeds were on the long outback roads in QLD

i used to cruise the outback roads at a comfortable 150-170km/h in that car when i was living up there and returning home for visits in NSW

they don't take all that much road to reach 210km/h

Agreed. But its a new toy and I was curious and it was a clear day on the freeway with no traffic about. That was on the flat by the way . Only did it once and no desire to see if I can beat it, but I was pretty impressed with its stability at that speed. But very silly behaviour anywhere besides a racecourse or an Autobahn.... If you really want to see how fast your car can go, book in for a track day.

214 km/h is maximum warp for a fresh 1.9L Mi16 (220 on the speedo). The 160hp and 2.0L versions do a tad more.

Pretty good. Just imagine how much faster you could go if you did not have a photographer sitting on your lap

    Only a 6 km/h error at 214 km/h? That's impressive.

None of the Australian delivered cars had the 160hp engine. There are a few personal imports around however which do have them. The 2L cars have the painted boot. There's plenty of them around. Parry has one for sale now. Very cheap I believe.

    Icon6 mi16 speed.......

I had a Series1 MI16 1990 which I had up to 180kmph with plenty to go. A friend had his up to 200 kmph on the Nullabour they are just so stable at speed. A very competent vehicle.

Just for info Wheels magazine got 208km/h out of a 1.9 in June '91 (BX 16V 210km/h) and 215km/h out of a 2.0 in May '94.

i had my 205 gti up to 170 km/h it had plenty to go but it was when i first got it and the front end was loose so i chickened out as the shakes began.
about three weeks ago i had it up to 195 km/h and now that all the front and shocks are new ,it was wonderfull.and it still had quite a bit to go as well and not one wobble or drift.i was coming in to yea so i had to slow down.
its not a mi 16 but i thought id blow my trumpet anyway.-BAZZ

"She" was on my lap at the time. Too bad we were both plastered and it's a bit blurred...

Edit: In truth, that photo was posted by someone else a while back. Not me.

I got my old one up to 210, scared the crap out of me though. With the gearbox I have now, the gearing is a little different so maybe I could get a few extra ks out of it. Not going to try though
