    Thrust Bearing

My 306 XT makes a grinding noise as soon
as the clutch petal is pressed. I'm pretty sure it's the thrust bearing making the noise. I was wondering if there was anything I could possible do to silence it, apart from
    replacing it?

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!

How olds the 306 (or more specificly it's clutch)??

The reason I ask is everytime I've replaced a thrust bearing, the new ones been very noisy Usualy shuts up it's 'whiring' after a few months of use.

    Shane,

I believe the clutch is the original one.
The car is a 95 model with 72500 km. I've
owned for about a year and have travelled
approx 7000km since I bought it.
I have a feeling that the lady I bought it
from used to drive with her left foot resting on the clutch pedal the whole time. Without realising it she was 'riding' the clutch which wore out the thrust bearing. However, the clutch still grabs fairly well.
What would a clutch kit be worth these days?

    Cheers
    george
