Default Turbo Diesel in a 504 Wagon

I am currently fitting a 505 turbo diesel and BA10 5 speed in my 1978 504 Diesel Wagon. Not a straight drop in, but most of the minor problems have been overcome.
We have reversed the rear gearbox mount and redrilled mounting holes in
the floor. We then needed to machine a 5mm step about 1.5mm in diam off
the leading edge of the retaining collar so it locates the mount at full
diametre and the step fits into the neck of the gearbox. We then
modified the pivot bush position and extended the drop lever on the
gearshift so the gear shift locates over the gearbox mount and the
linkage rod runs under the engine mount. We also needed to open out
the bolt holes in the collar to 11.5mm as the holes in the gearbox are
drilled on a slightly larger radius than the collar and by easing the
holes we have taken the strain off the retaining bolts.
The reversed engine mount system worked OK in the V6 / 5speed 504 wagon I used to own so should be alright behind the diesel.

Can anyone think of anything I have missed, or have you seen it done another way?

that's basically the way i saw the first BA10 into a 504 wagon many years ago done

i have never seen a bad thing about doing it the way you have done it and contrary to belief it does work and it works well

just reversing the mount and slightly modifying so it all fits is fine in my books

the first one i saw done was by phill spears from nowra in the mid to late 80's

Thanks Pugrambo. As I said, it worked well for years in my V6 504 wagon and that did a lot of towing and off road work without the need to replace the gearbox mount.

As a point of interest, the 1978 504 wagon which is the recipient of the turbo diesel is an English private import. It has an unusual "agricultural" dash with a straight bar speedo and instruments and two air vents on the dash similar to the 404.
It has a manual cut-out lever on the rhs of the steering column which creates some fun when unsuspecting mechanics bring it back from a rego road test, turn the key off and it just keeps running!

The heart transplant should make this a very nice wagon to drive.

On your favourite topic of 604's - where do I submit the details of my 78 SL and my 83 GTI ?

Once this one is finished I will have a go at the same conversion into my 404 Ute, so I will need another 505 turbo motor and BA10/5 if anyone has a good one for sale.
I am also looking for a very good 404 for the 2007 Ampol re-run and a good 404 ute for one of my family.

Please keep your ears to the ground and PM me if you know of anything.
