    Default Jumping speedometer

    Hi guys

Amoungst the many little quirky problems with my car, the latest is a tad annoying.

When in neutral the speedo stick thing keeps jumping up & down.
    Why?
Can incompetant people like me fix it?
Is this something i should worry about or live with?

    Much love

Asanka - In neutral (& clutch pedal out) the idel of the engine turns parts of the gearbox over, but no drive forward as its not inn a gear. Unless its really a problem, I would live with it. - Chris

my main worry really is why this has happened all of a sudden

Ah ( he thought ) chronometric speedos again.
No ( thinks again ) worn cable, strand catching causing flicking of needle.
No ( light dawns) these are funny Pugs with the diff in the wrong end.
Funny computer driven electrics ( should read excentrics!) send to "specialist having some knowledge of broken circuit boards, poor earthing, intermittent capacitor discharge, pulsing transistors and other funny little green men running around in the computer box picking up errant signals just to confuse the driver.
The 407 kept telling me I had a flat tyre. Not good at +110kmph.

    Bon chance

I had a problem like this in my Honda (I know, I know, shouldaboughtapug ) Well sorta, happened whenever at speed, not just in neutral. It was a dodgy speedo cable, not so much the cable itself, but the cable was a two-piece unit and the plug thing that connected the two halves together was worn out, causing the cable to flex and twist while spinning.

You'd think the speedo cable spinning would be independent of gear selection (or lack thereof)

I can imagine the speedo cable routing would be really 'interesting' given the car was designed for LHD
