    New Peugeot book??

    Hi all

Has anyone read the book "Peugeot, the Australian Story" ??

My dad just got given one. Which he then thrust my way.

But anyway noticed a few familiar names in the contributor section. So thought I'd mention it.

Has some "interesting" comments about the 505 such as the Aug 1983 STi coming out with a 2.2L engine but then again I'm not an expert. Probably a few more that people who know, would notice about the rest of the range.

Pretty frank about the success of the 604 and 605 in Australia, as in not much.

Also has pretty useless but quite amusing facts, like a Peugeot being the first car stolen.
(is that commenting on how good the car was or how easy it was to steal?? hehe)

    Jono,

Yeah, that's true, all Australian 505 STi's were 2.2 litre like the GTi. The early European version of the STi was a 2 litre.

I'm actually going to look at a 505 STi tommorrow. Their asking $400 for it. It's the one that someone mentioned in the "I give up" thread as being advertised on the toyota mods forum.

A friend of mine wants the engine and gearbox to put in his 203 ute (which presently has a Holden 186 or 202 six). If the body is any good, I might use it. We'll see. It looks like I might have a 505 for $100 after we split the costs.

How much does "Peugeot, the Australia Story" cost?

that 203 ute wouldn't happen to belong to a bridge would it ?
and before that it came from down the highlands way ?
and is now a 2 tone black and silver and was once a creamy colour ?

Thanks for correcting me, been wondering why all insurance companies quoted for 2.2L.

As for the price, it hasn't got RRP on it, it was sent to my Dad by the New car Peugeot Club I think. So I assume dealers will have them or Other 306 owners.

The details are incase they help, Peugeot; the Australian story by Ewan Kennedy. Pubished by Marque Publishing.

    Yeah Sean,

That's Keith I was talking about.

Are you interested in that 2849cc V6 at Blacktown Pick & Payless for $220? If somebody doesn't buy it soon, it will go to the crusher. Fast moving cars like toyotas, Holdens, etc, are crushed 2 weeks after they enter the yard. The Euro stuff lasts up to 6 months. The 1981 Volvo 264 that holds that V6 has been there for a while now.

from what i can work out the K-jet should work on an odd fire anyway
the only difference between the 2 engines is the cams, dissy and crank
the inj is constant flow and only opens injectors when the inlet opens
as far as i can work out anyway

I remember seeing that 203 ute just after mr winder finished the car
when i first saw it years ago it had a 186 worked to XU-1 specs with a celica 5 spd and a drop tank just behind the cab under the tray
i remember the car bieng worked on and saw how much money it cost the bloke to do it
i think i have somewhere here pics of the car during various stages (i used to work with this blokes brother)
then i heard the car was up for sale for around the $18 000 mark
slowly the price came down and then the car vanished
next time i heard Mr bridge had the car and painted it
then i saw it at dubbo for the pageant
for some funny reason the bonnet was left down while there were pug devotees around

About the book, we got sent one on Friday. I didn't open it so I didn't see who sent it. But I would guess it was sent by City Peugeot (or from the importers). Not sure, but if you want one I'd go down to your friendly local Pug dealer get on your hands and knees and BEG . Anyone one know how to get on the Peugeot mag delivery list, my dad got sent one not long after getting a new pug but haven't received one since, or is not only a yearly publication?

The book was sent by Sime Darby, the new importers. There was a letter enclosed written by the managing director (the same bloke who wrote the into in the beginning of the book).

I filled out the 'change of ownership' form in my 306 manual when I bought my car so I guess Peugeot knows who I am.

It's not the first bit of mail I've got from the importers. I got a letter telling me that Sime Darby were taking over importing in Australia, and another time I got a brochure explaining how modern Peugeot engines should use 500ml of oil per 1000km, and showed me how to pull the dipstick out! I guess some people need all the help they can get?!

hmm, I got a letter about the Sime Darby changeover, and a "2002 Peugeot Lifestyles Catalogue" in the mail a little bit ago. No book though.

With the clothing/office trinkets catalogue I got a battery pamphlet. I guess they chucked a random one in along with it, if you got the oil one. (useless fact: there's a set of about 10 of those maintenance pamphlets, they have piles of them at my dealer's service area)

I bought new Pug about 10 months ago and i got sent the book from Peugeot, get other stuff sent all the time as well (even Saab stuff).

From book : In 1988, Peugeot's first year of racing their 405 T16 (re-shelled 205T16) in the Paris-Dakar, Vatanen's car was stolen... I thought you might just notice someone running of with your brand spankin 405 T16 (Not quiet either) another 405 still won though.

I have a brochure called "Peugeot in Australia" which covers all the history until 1996.

Is this just an updated version & secondly is it a proper 'book'?
