    Default 505 STI-Running unleaded

I own a 1983 Peugeot 505 STI and I wanted to know if you could run this car on unleaded without doing any work on the cylinder head. Could I run this car on the standard premium unleaded or do I have to use something like Optimax. Did the 505 STI have hardened valve seats when it came out.
    Thanks for the help.

Just to support Rays answer - yes you can.

Our 1984 505 Executive has now covered in excess of 400,000 km with no problems. I confess to using Flashlube as an additive, but it is strictly not necessary.

I would, however, recommend the use of a premium unleaded fuel, such as Optimax, Caltex Vortex, Mobil Synergy 8000, Ampol Gold etc. The safety margin against possible detonation problems, plus the smoother running and improved fuel economy make the additional few cents a litre more than worthwhile.

    Cheers,
    Kim.

I thought the hardened valve seats only came in on late '84 505s.

My '83 STi is running fine on Prem Unleaded (90% of the time Optimax/Vortex), and its up to 465,000 kms or so.

Haven't seen any adverse effects yet.

Crosspug, do you use the additive?
White 505Gti just about fitted with XN & 5 Speed.

Ok to clarify this, sorry. I do not use additive. But the engine was recon'd some time ago ie some where between 150,000 to 200,000kms ago. But I don't think the valve seats were touched (as far as I know). I've put about 30,000 kms on the car with no problems and 50,000kms on my early '84 STi (300,000 and no recon) with no issue (I took the head off when I broke up the car and no problems with the seats).

    Hope that helps.

i to have an 83 Series 1 STI... been using just Regular Pump Unleaded and Premium when i have the cash and urge for speed.

after advice from my mechanic tho he recomened i just use regular unleaded with a splash of Auto Trany Fluid.. Full of zinc which is apparnantly nice to the top end..

Either way.. getting scacilly close to half a million km's and not any issues yet..
