Default My 1987 205 GTI - Written off

    Hi All,

About 1 week ago, my 205 was vandalised in sunny (or should that be - no so sunny - Parramatta).

All they did was draw all over it, ruining the paint work.

AAMI (the insurance company) has written the car off.

This has the reflective GTI stripe at the back (100% perfect), new starter motor, new alternator, BE1 gearbox with no dramas, newish clutch, new / rebuilt radiator, new hosesm brand new clutch cable (5 days old) and new rubber at the front. and the griffith engineering (UK) short shift kit), brand new Redline gearbox oil ($90 alone).... new seals.. argh.... so much time and $$$$

The engine was 80,000K since a full rebuild from Euro Quality at Artarmon.

So.. look out for it at up and coming auctions?

I guess this is good bye, and thanks for all the memories...and all the help the past 18 months.

I may get a GTi-6 as I love the look and I want something zippy / small for parking .. but with the unreliability of the 205.. I doubt I'd want the hassle again.

YOu can't nip in to see it and rip off the rear reflector panel can you?

BTW, test drive a gti6 if you can. YOu'll find it a totally different beast to the 205. After driving my GF's around all weekend and now back in my gti6, the gruntiness of the 6 is very apparent. Maybe doesn't take corners as good asthe 205 but by god, give it a crack.

Sorry to hear that mate . What a shame. Why anyone would do that is beyond me (unless it was an ex)?
I havn't got mine fully insured because I don't want them taking it away from me for something minor (or major) and the fact that the insurence still costs me an arm & a leg.

That sux ... just a respray and everything would be OK .. someone at auction if going to be lucky ... wasn't the ex was it

As for the GTi-6 and parking .. fine if you don't want to turn right

They won't let you buy it back yourself for the estimated salvage value, Justin? THe RACV let me do this with my first 505 sLi when it was written off and it was well worthwhile.

    Cheers

perhaps a little late into the suggestion box, but how about adding more graf of your own style and design and a few coats of clear and using it as promo vehicle, could turn a lot of heads and earn you a dollar. Plenty of mags would pick it up, your sad tale turned to triumph. Coke, extreme sports, hip hop crowd, get creative.

    Clutch cable...the supposedly unobtainable part.

I'll keep an ear to the ground and if it pops up at auction I'll let people know...cept I want some parts off it. :-D

    Damage =

    Roof (just scratched)

passenger door (scratched / kicked in)
    windscreen
    wing mirror (ripped off)

Other work that would need to be done

Justin B, that sux about your car mate.

orestes, that reindeer is the most annoying thing I have seen on the net all week. But then again, I would expect no less.
