Default 206 GTI Spare wheel tyre?

What type of tyre is on the spare wheel of the current 206 GTI? The one that has Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D2s as standard equipment? If they're running the GS-D2s, which is a fairly aggresive directional tyre, wouldn't this be dangerous if you had to mount them backwards?

Did Peugeot think about this and throw something else on there as the spare? I thought it was running a full sized spare...

OK, that clarifies that for me then!

Yes, this side facing out, means that if the tyre is mounted for use on the left side of the vehicle, it'd be facing backwards on the right side of the vehicle.

So if it's raining and your tread is facing backwards... not good.

Only the 15" shod 206GTi's (pre Mux) had a full spare.

Bad yes .. but the best thing to do is try and get the offending tyre on the rear so the impact is less .. and although it's painful and you might need to swap 2 tyres this is good advice for space savers as well.

Ah, thought the original ones has a full sized spare. The MUX takes up boot space?

Either the 16 inch doesn't fit into the cradle, or Peugeot are too cheap to put in a full size spare.

Or you could just ensure that your spare is a non directional. That's what I did with the 6 ages ago. My flat mate is about to go through a similar thing as he a dodgy Pirelli Rosso on his 307 XSI.

Oh yes, I'm having Moday-itis, forgot about the upgrade to 16 for a moment there. A set of 5 original GTI rims would be a nice addition to a current GTI then

The 205/45 R16 stuggles to fit (although I'm told it can be MADE to fit) .. the 15" was only a 185/55 R15 ... narrower. But yes it's probably the latter that's more true.

Hmmm it maybe a way to go,(GTi6 or S16 rims also? ) the only thing is that I think that the 16's look nicer. Just a proper steel spare would be good, even if it is 15 inch.

Can this be done by modifying the cradle somehow?

Yep .... got a welder ? ... 2 cuts, 2 bends, 2 welds. Finding another 16" suitable RIM on the otherhand, big difference.

Personally I liked the 15 inch rims much better (maybe I am biased...) as they were a much less "fussy" design than the current GTi 16 inch rim - plus they have to be a lot easier to clean. Now that I think about it, I think someone mentioned the 15s were a unique rim (ie. only found on the GTi), whereas the 16s are not.

Ah, each to their own, I guess.
    Regards,

    Simon
