    Icon5 which 205 engine have i got???

I am under the impression that I have bought a s3 motor for a 205gti. That was what I was told it was anyway and I have no reason to believe otherwise. However it has the earlier style spring loaded cam belt tensioner. Is this possible on a s3 motor. I thought that all the s3 motors would have the later type tensioners??? Anyway this is the info on the engine, as far as I can tell.

Could somebody please tell me what I have got? And if this isnít enough to id it, what do I need?

Dont S3 Engine have a plastic inlet manifold whereas the S! and S2 have cast aluminium manifolds?

D6B is the later version. The early version is DFZ. They do have the older type tensioner. I think only the very latest engines with the plastic inlet manifolds (and the 1.6L SI) have the Mi16 style tensioner.

The flywheel will also have Motronic teeth near the ring gear. The exhaust ports will not have EGR (exhaust gas return) ports. These are 8mm holes that exit next to each exhaust port.

My 205 is a 92 S3 and has the earlier type cam belt tensioner, this was discovered when the mechanic was doing the cam belt, so the car was stuck until the right part arrived, but all the other parts point to a later model engine, as well as the engine number, i remeber reading somewhere that Peugeot changed parts quite frequently on the 205 so there is always some differences. I have the alloy inlet and the only late model I have seen with a plastic inlet was an ex-Japan Gti in a wreckers yard.

Plastic Manifolds were on the final 205's. Plenty of Motronic GTi's however had alloy ones.

Does anyone know if the plastic manifold has any benefits over the alloy, like variable inlet length? Or did they just go cheap?

    Thanks

trying to follow the wiring diagrams in the haynes manual.

is the s3 the JAL or the JAZ and does it matter for wiring???

what will be the code for the 87 s1?? all i know is XU...

this would make the diagrams a little more readable
