    Default Gti 180 Prices

I test drove a Gti 180 yesterday and was mighty impressed. The salesman was kind enough to give the missus and I the keys for an hour so we got a chance to have a bit of fun with it.

I feigned slight disinterest in the car when we got back to the dealer and had a 15 min chat with the salesman. We didnt negotiate over price at all, but he did quote a price of just over $39k on the road. This is a bit more than I'd be willing to pay for it, and realise that I'll have to put in the hard yards with the negotiations, but I'd be interested to hear what deals other people have negotiated on their 180s.

i find it effective to say to them

i will pay you $35,000 ( just a random figure)

dont bother calling me unless you get very close to that

then leave the building after giving him your card or contact details

they always call back. myabe not till end of the month... but they will

With all onroads, 6 month rego (wich varies from state to state) and metalic paint (cause that's extra .. what BS) ... $39K is about right .. what's the BEST price I've heard ? $35.5 on the road ... how they managed to get that no idea ? (wasn't a demo). Most have paid the $36-37K mark.

$36-37K is doable. Remember the Aussie Dollar is good at the moment so they have room to move.

Most of the really good prices are made during end of year sales.

But I would think there is still room to be made on the $39k on orad price.

If not buy mine with 5000km on the clock and save $6-$7k hahaha.

Fortunately, I have nothing to trade, so I expect to be able to negotiate from a reasonably stong position. Also, I'm in no rush, so if it means waiting for a rainy day at EOM, then I'll wait. Thanks for the responses so far.

I'll also be forced to keep the car parked on the street 24hrs a day. Does anyone else do this, and what are peoples opinions on doing this? I'd be more worried about the wheels or seats being pinched than the whole car being taken.

Smokey, what colour do you have? At low 30s, I'm interested.

blue of course, the only colour which is unique to the 180 over a 138 gti ! hows that for a sales feature pitch thingo, lol. Yes mid mid 30's is my reserve price.

Im taking the pictures tomorrow and popping it in the paper this week in case anyone is wondering.

Guys, due to my lease issues I wont be able to let the 180 go for as low as I would have liked. If it doesnt sell I will be forced to keep it for a year until it is viable to sell again (never mind). It will still save someone about $5-6k off the RRP and on road of a new car. The car is stock accept for tints and is in good nick with 5500km on the clock. So if anyone is interested PM me.

well it depends on how much the buyer negotiates. Im in a predicament where if it doesnt sell for what I need Im better off keeping it. So if it sells great, if not, know worries.
