Default How do I distinguish a square port head?

Just wondering how a novice like myself could figure out if my 505 is blessed with a square port head or not.

Unless the engine has been changed for that of an early 504 or it is a Diesel or Fuel Injected it will have the square port head. These were introduced in the 1979 504.

You don't want to go pulling the manifold off just to check that...

The shape of the runners of the manifold will show you... if there's an earlier model around to compare with you'll readily see.

Default ...and big bore exhaust manifolds?...

Thanks guys. Square port it is then.
Did the big bore exhaust manifold only come on the earlier 505's? The reason I ask is that my exhaust note is throatier than other XN1's I've heard, and I get a bit of snap and crackle on decelleration. (Perhaps this is other exhaust components though?)...zac

The engine pipe for the big bore manifold has its junction (where the two pipes merge into one) much further along... the 'normal' pipes join just above the bend that turns the pipe horizontal, the big bore's pipes merge after that bend.

I've only ever seen them on very early 505s.
