    Icon5 Mi16 air flow meter - $340 reasonable??

    Hi,

My Mi16 started idling at around 2K and stumbling and looks like the air flow meter. Locals quoting $340 is this within the ballpark of reasonable?

    Cheers

    Hi Monty,

    Two possibilities.

First is there is a dude in Melbourne who can fix/calibrate AFMs - I'll get the details & post tonite.

Second, from the Bosch doco the mi16 AFM is the same as in Alfa 75 twin spark 1987-1992 2.0L (should be plenty of these as rusted out wrecks by now), Citroen BX TZi & 205 GTi. This gives you more options when looking for a SH part.

    Barry.

    Hi Barry,

Do you have this guys number as I think mine could probably do with a re-calibration. What's one of these worth too.

    thanks a lot,

    Dave

    Hi Guys,

before you go spending $$$ on the AFM shouldn't you actually make sure it's the AFM to start with

Is it the early Bosch type that you can 'pop' the cover off, and uses a flap to determine the air flow. If so I suggest just moving the wiper to an unworn area of track.

I always refuse to replace anything until I can verify without doubt that is the component that has problem. You wouldn't want to spend $300bux and find you problem hasn't gone. Doesn't the fact poeple always say "thousands spent, new computers, new sensors, new etc, etc, etc ...." prove this If there had actually been some diagnosing done in the first place they would only have need to replace the 1 item with the problem, NOT everything

I've got one here, you can have it for $100. I also have many more MI-16 parts available from a car that I am breaking. Feel free to PM me with any enquiries.

    Default Outcome....

    Thanks for all the feedback.

After some discussion they offered me "trade price" of $260 and were willing to trial it and I didn't have to buy it if it didn't fix it. Decided in order to get on the road it was worth it.

To say it fixed it is an understatement. The thing is unbelievably different. Midrange is much more punchy than any time since I've had the thing. I can't believe it has made such a difference.

So overall one happy if poorer banana.

$260? What's that in my money? I can get a 2nd hand AFM for 20.

I think that is about the same! Anyway after being very excited about the result I have since had the car stall twice on deceleration and be very unexcited about starting on an incline. So either they have affected something else or it was a multi layer issue in the first place.............Seems like a fuel pressure issue but i'm seriously thinking of time for Mi and I to part company........
