    Default Wippers Died...

on my 505 in a horric clumsy effort, triping over each other yesterday afternoon.. just seese to stop working..

I havent had ot use the poor little things for a couple of months now so i guess they ave just seased from lack of use.. "shrugs"

either way.. the pasanger sie wipper has no resistance at all.. while the drive's side motor still is holing its on when trying to move the wipper manually..

Are there any tricks i should watch out for as i take out and replace, or is it all pretty much strright forward.?

A similar thing happened to my STI a few months back. It turned out that the ball and socket joints on the mechanism had fallen off and/or broken.

I had a complete mechanism from a 1980 model which had metal parts where the STI had plastic, and plastic bits where the STI had metal (they were from a different OEM supplier). I pulled the two mechanisms apart and combined all the metal bits from both and tossed the plastic bits. I made sure I used a good quality teflon impregnated grease when putting them together so that they're adequated lubriacted and don't seize, etc.

    Default wiper failure

the pivot ball has jumped out, the assembly can be easily removed . I think you can buy new ball ends to bolt on or you might have to change the bar with a ball on each end. i tried to repair a socket one day, was a waste of time, just when i thought it was in, it was out!

Before doing anything drastic, take off the wiper arms & the rubber cover over the spindle and put quite a few drops of auto trans fluid onto the spindle & let it flow down into the guts of the mechanism. I have done this a couple of times and its freed up the sticky/seized spindle.

Then you can easily take off the windscreen grille and clean out the chamber and lubricate the levers and balls. Its amazing how much crap ) leaves etc.) gets into that chamber!
So many projects - so little time.
