    Icon1 306 airbag light?

Got a 1997 306 XR here with a problem with the air bag light... Occaisionally it will flash for 5 minutes and then stays solid (turning the car off and on again resets this).

Manual says go to the dealer... ya... joy.

Any ideas? I'm sure someone else has had this problem... I'm hoping it's just a loose connection somewhere.

The normal fix to this is the connectors under the front seats.

Shut the alarm down & make sure you have the radio code then discconect the battery FIRST & wait 15 minutes before you go ahead with this.

Under each front seat is a Orange 2 pin connector, Unplug these & clean the terminals with WD40 or similar & make sure they are a tight fit together.

Plug them back together & reconnect the battery & a the light should stay off.

Some people have cut the connectors off & soldered the wires together.
Make sure you match the colours of the wires & they have some sleeving or tape over each other so they cant short out.

The Orange connector is for the seatbelt pre tensioners.

Turns out under the driver's seat, the orange cable had rubbed up against the sharp welding which forms the basket of the seat. It then melted a bit... so the cable was blackened... A bit of soldering and plenty of plastic cable routing material should keep it safe from happening again.

Had to take the seat out... but I'm happy that it has been fixed.
