    V,

    206 180: 1:14.53
    Astra: 1:14.78

The Clio wasn't in it this year but from memory Bates did a 14.4 in it last year.

The standout laptimes were the EVO8 (1:10.34) and the M3 CSL (1:07.94)

That is just plain ****ing insane!

Nice work 180's - As long as it's a french car up there in top 5, i'm happy too!

All you need now is a set of white-powder coated rims and you'll cut your 0-100 times at least 2 seconds!

yup GD, "strict criteria" I think means the car must have had a facelift or something along those lines.
So I think the times from last years BFYB are comperable.

    Clio Sport 1:14.27
I now expect few Reno drivers to do a banana dance here.
(last year's BFYB results here, just scroll down)

Brenno, good memory that was pretty close.
And yes I think they are f***ing quick times on road rubber. I guess you can see development in chassis, brakes suspension etc in those laptimes.

Rick Bates' times certainly puts any of my efforts on that track to shame

The Clio did a 14.2 eh? Was it the Astra then that did a 14.4?

Anyway, other standout times for me were the BMW 645i (1:11.09) which is impressive for a 1620 kilo barge. The Volvo S40 T5 also managed a 1:15.5 - what a cool car!

Justin'll love you! I'm quoting you to make sure it stays

Good to see the GTi180 up there but just watch the insurance premiums skyrocket in 2-3 years time

    no suprise with the 180

    another track test http://www.topcar.co.za/pages/Featur...?FeatureID=273

clearly the 180 being a lot quicker than the clio in that test, so its interesting (and great) to see the clio being of similar time in the BFYB last year.

the suprises for me are the r32 and gta, thought they would have done better, and the astra getting that close, interesting.

you must have been quick to get a copy of the mag, it only came out today!

Well done, i must say though im a bit shocked to see the r32 & gta (more so the r32) perform equally to the 180. O well 180 owners should be happy

If there is a strict criteria then why is Astra Turbo and Barina still there? I know Barina had a facelift, but it received no mechanical changes. WTF?!

Anyway, you can't compare lap times from different years, really. Depends on the conditions, really. As a comparison to see if conditions were that different, what were the Astra times from BOTH years?

Asanka, don't be shocked at the GTA. It's not a good track car. Way too soft for the track. It's been proven time and time again. In the UK, Alfa refuse to give the mags a GTA if they're going to go on the track without R compounds!

Last years winners are automatically entered so they can defend their crown. They used the old Barina btw, not the face-lifted one.

Reigning class winners are allowed to return to defend the titles...

Get this The Astra won the whole thing last year...

The 206 Gti 180 was rated better thus (with my logic) it the 206 180 was avaliable last year she would have WON

i wonder how the 182 clio would have gone if they released it here earlier. Be good to see how it goes in next years Bang For Your Bucks.

it is good that another frenchie got up there and amongst it all though shame it couldn't come overall first like its predecessor from france

i think the 182 will kick some serious butt next year.

if only they were working on the interior, I would be trading.

Goulburn at this time of the year is either raining/snowing or cold or bloody cold. there is no inbetween. So the conditions would be very similar.

I was thinking about that "major changes" rule as well with the STi, SS, Astra ,Barina. Wonder if they have a limit of 1 french car per year though.

    --edit--
ahh class winners rule. forgot about it.

Ah, I see. I'll retract my "WTF?" then

I'm really surprised the 180 didn't win. I mean, you've all got the BFYB attitude already.

He certainly can! I reckon the Barina is a better can than the 206, you know

But what I don't understand is why can't Peugeot give us 206GTi 300. A bit to the extreme here but you will know what I mean when you see the Ford Focus RS, WRX STi & EVO VIII. Out of all the rally production cars, the 206 hasn't really got a out of this world model that all the car magazines editors craved.

I know we all don't car much about what mag editors say.

But the 180 is always middle of the road. Why can't we have -

    300hp Turbo Charged
    5 speed tiptonic seq gearbox
    19" Alloy Wheels
    300m Front Bremble Brakes
2 X Twin exhaust, one on each side, like the BMW M3.
More aggressive styling, like a GT front and back end with wheel arch trims and big spoiler.

If we can have a car like that, retail could be at $79000. But at least we won't be compared with a truly cashmere-nannies car like the Holden Astra or Clio. We should be comparing with our peers like the EVO or Rex.

Has anyone heard bad things about the EVO or the Rex STi or the Focus RS, I don't think so because they put the best stuff in those cars and it is our 206 that won the rally 3 years in a row

I know there is a huge different in the WRC car and the road cars but how the EVO and REX did their road cars is the owner/driver feels that their car is so close to being driving a WRC car. It is all in the mind and in the marketing but Peugeot hasn't given us 206 lovers a car to be proud of until now with th 180 and it is still not the best they can give us.

Anyway, I am late for my auction.

I'm not sure if this is correct but I believed it got some twin port engine? I don't know if it is anything significant tho

The RS was far from perfect. But I'd still want one!

Not sure about 19s on a 206 though! That's pushing it. Give it 4WD or a funky LSD and turbo it and you'd have some very happy fans, that's for sure.

    Hahahaha,

Yeah, STis are all driven by "noxious knobheads" and are used for ram raids. Just ask John Carey of Wheels fame. He upset quite a few people on a forum similar to this one with his last comparison review of it with the R32. Someone even said they should "tie a chromie to his leg and threaten to toss him in the river unless he apologises!"

The Astra won the whole thing last year? Despite "handling like Barramundi out of water?" Who'd have thought!
