Default how can i make a 205 go fast?

hi im new here and dont know thta much bout cars but ive bin tod this is the place to learn so..
    any way

i have a 205xl and its prety slow and takes corners like a milkfloat
so if anyone knows any easy mods to make go faster i have around 1000GBP to spend on it
iv heard that if you put gti suspension on the back it will handle somewhat better but i dont know if this will even fit
ive also heard that a K+N air filter will make a substantial difference
but weather this is true or not i dont know
so any advise is much appreciated

    Hi Paul,
In Australia we only have GTIs and a made for Australia model, the SI (also XU powered), so I doubt whether anyone would be able to help you.
From what I've seen 1000 GBP should be easily enough for you to buy a 1.6GTI.
The filter will make no difference, the GTI rear suspension probably will fit but my SI has the soft rear supension and handles perfectly well. However, the front end feels just as firm as my GTI.
What engine does your 205 have? If it is the early model with the gearbox in the sump I would say your are wasting your time trying to modify things.

if you want to go fast around the corners look at the suspension/tyres/brakes (in that order). Find out what you want out of the car and set a budget for each mod.

Engine power development is a big dark hole where money dissapears for marginal real life results.

Check out MYT205's pug in the car sales section. Its a beast, he has a good list of what he has done to the little car. That might help out a little. Its the Nitrous one...

You would need to start with a GTI. If Pauls car has a TU engine it might be possible to source a 1.3 litre Rallye engine. These had 103 HP at 6800 RPM!
Don't forget he is in England.

Try having a look at 'Retro Cars' magazine its a brilliant read with loads of tech stuff. They swear by bolting on twin webers to anything that moves, but youll have to tell your insurers of any mods and they'll probably sting you for it anyway!
