Default How much would you expect to pay....

...for a replacement '91 205 GTi steering wheel?

I just went to the City Peugeot dealer in Melbourne, and got a very interesting answer.

    So... any takers?!?

    I'd guess $180 - $200

Why? A few years ago I bought a new steering wheel for the 504 and it cost $150. I was stoked you could even buy a brand new steering wheel for a car that was 20 years old at the time!

If it's too expensive, stick a Momo on it.

Well given that manufacturers like to sting punters for parts, something like a stering wheel would command a premium I'm sure, so I'll bid $900.

    Yep.. I was quoted $1080

The guy at the spare parts counter said to me before he told me the price ".. do you want to grab a chair?"

His mate said "Does the front of the car come with it as well?!?"

Oh well.. the leather on the top of the rim is starting to crack and peel, but I guess I won't be replacing it.

Still... how can they expect to :

    a) Charge over $1000 for A STEERING WHEEL!!!
    b) Expect anyone to pay it?

For that price, I assume the only people who would pay for it would be collectors/show car owners etc....

Pug-a-lug; Go to PugWreck in Keilor. The guy there has got a fricken garage full of parts so who knows what he has there at the moment. Got an external mirror for a 205 for $50 when they are like $125 brand new. He's also really helpful and great to have a chat to.

The last time i priced one [4 years ago ] they were $350....they certainly have gone up. If that is the new price then the wreckers will normally charge about half new price. ouch !!

Exactly. These parts are dirt cheap in the UK. Look in ebay or even buy some of the parts from places like GSF. GSF deliver internationally as well. We get ripped off in this country. I could not believe that Pug wanted $537 for the power window regulator a few weeks ago. What a joke!

Parts are bloody expensive.. i got quoted $900 odd for the plastic hood for my instrument cluster !

I just scored a pair of headlights and clear s3 front indicators for $50.. pretty much new.. from one of the blokes on here !

Trust me what I say about parts in the UK. I have just lived there for 5 1/4 years. Even the dealers in the UK are quite reasonable for some of the parts. Not like here.

How about a 405Mi16 steering wheel? I think they're exactly the same except that they have a [] centre pad instead of [GTi].

You could always look at getting it re-trimmed at a motor trimmers. I have had a couple of steering wheels re-trimmed and you couldnt tell that they had been done - apart from the new leather! It cost me under $200 each time I think.

    Default Get it retrimmed

and make sure your greasy hands get rubbed all over it. That way the leather gets what it needs to stay soft and moist, oil and grease!

Mine is 16 years old and still as good as new. Sad to say I am selling it next week.

I know its a bit of a long shot but before I would buy a new one, I'd go down to the local autobahn or decent car store, and grab some "Autoglym" interior care product. Man that stuff works wonders. Its not the cheapest of formulas but wow

Autoglym keeps my car looking new. Have almost bought the entire range. It is highly recommended by dealers and manufacturers around the world and has transformed damage into almost new on many of my friends and my cars.

I've just bought a MOMO Race wheel and boss kit. I'll be changing the standard rim on my '91 S3 205 GTI and will be putting it up sale in a few weeks. Let me if know if you're interested.
