Default New clutch for Pug 205 GTi

Ok, I think I need a new clutch

The car has done about 171,000 kms.

It isn't 'slipping' per se... but there are rather nasty low-frequency grinding noises eminating from the drivetrain during initial acceleration from rest... as well as under any hard acceleration.

It may be a drive-shaft issue (which is what I initially thought)... but the way its been evolving over the past few weeks, I think its clutch.

My question : How many people here have had their clutches replaced and roughly how much did it cost? (parts + labour)?

Check your engine mounts you may find that the bottom of the exhaust is hitting the cross member on acceleration cus the engine tilts back.

I also had similar sounds thinking it was a drive shaft grinding and after replacing my cat the sounds where gone.

    Hope it helps

    Default Maybe?

It could be a drive shaft, the longer drive shaft has a bearing on it, fits in to the lower engine mount bracket. To see if it is, spary some WD40/greese spray around that area of the bearing-Take the 205 beast for a drive.
See if the sounds still there.....
Good Luck (could be the clutch still, as you have clock up some miles-no....KM)

Got my clutch replaced about 2 months ago.
It was $350 for the kit, labour was about $650 but I got the timing belt, water pump, main seal and a heap of other stuff done as well.
So i'd guess just for the cluthc the labour would cost about 300?
I got it done at Elliot Tune mobile, he's based in moorabbin, go to:

Just an update. I noticed the other day that my exhaust was sitting a little lower than normal... and indeed a support bracket seemed to have come loose.

So I took the car to get a minor service (ie fix leaking master cylinder) and asked them to check the exhaust.

They fixed it up.... noise all gone!! Vibration all gone!!! Car is running smoothly again .... HOORAY!! It's like a brand new car
