This place in Hurstville called i think Soundmaster, just around the corner from the Blockbuster Video on Forest Road. Huge Pioneer signs too, can't miss it.

Yeah, It's a pretty easy DIY job if you want to save $80 (That's what Strathfield quoted me)

Anyone recommend a good MP3 head unit with 3 preouts (front, rear and sub) for my 306?

Not only save $80, but also save from getting scratches and loose dash panels by not going to Strathfields. They'll most probably connect the ignition power to the incorrect lead too if the 206 is muxed.

    I'm happy with my Pioneer MP3 deck. The replacement model for mine DEH-P7650MP has 3 pre-outs. I can't stand Alpine's cluttered face/controls.

Its not so much that Pioneer is bad, its just that most of the guys in the industry I know here are always telling me that Pioneer is consistently using cheaper materials in the manufacturer of its components & is not near the quality they were a few years ago. Many come back under warranty to the hifi business I am involved in. The same thing can also be said for Blaupunkt & Sony which at one time were quite high end units. Simply open the casing of an Alpine or Clarion & compare with other brands & the difference is obvious. JVC's are a half decent low to mid range deck, used a lot by car yards when people request a CD player in their second hand car. Of course it all comes down to personal taste. Always better to go to a specialist store though rather than Stratties, better to pay slightly more to get a great job done. Good luck with stereo anyway

Agreed. He has some great gear at great prices. Also has a very good reputation.

SoundOff (Chris Rogers) at performance forums is a great installer based in Brisbane and comes down to Sydney every once in a while. He is an awesome installer and stocks Blaupunkt mainly. He can install anything for you though.

I guess it's development cost cutting. it's pretty much the whole xplod range it's complete rubbish. I can say that from experience. I currently have a sony MX-630 deck in my car it cost me $1000 new a yr ago, being a car audio newbie I naturally went for sony cos sony has been reknowned for making decent electronics. This deck is complete rubbish its been skipping so bad that I've been forced to either buy a new deck or put in a stacker (apparently the laser is gone). You don't expect such shonky reliability for something you just paid 1k for.. and the subs.. they are WEAK I had a sony 12 it was rubbish I was driving it with a decent amp as well (alpine v12 350w rms). This was made even mroe evident when my mate plugged in his pioneer 12inch sub..

Sony has the ability to make truly great car audio equipment they have the people the knowledge experience etc.. they just fail to utilise this..

So steer clear of xplod I hear their older stuff is really good though

this is exactly why sony stuff is sold at autobahn because half the stuff in there JUNK.... yes stay clear of xplod because they are likely to do just that KABOOM! .... old sony stuff was good as soon as they brought out there new xplod stuff it turned to junk... personally if i was going to reccomend anything it would be blaupunk... excelent car stereos allthough some of there stuff can be a bit on the expensive side i think its worth it... its been a while since i've been into ice though so things may have changed a little... my brother used to run 2x6 inch mids and 2x12 inch subs 2x tweeters... in the rear of a toyota sprinter (with a 4age) powerd by a 4x1000w fusion amp runing through a bluapunkt turn that thing half way up and you'd know about it

.... ahh car audio, I lost count of all the little niks, cuts and F's I struck when putting music in a possibly the worst environment for it.
I hate to tell you this, but nearly ALL japanese brands are assembled by the same people, using the same components, how is this so? well because of the controling shares from BIG time firms like Matsushita Corporation etc.
If you really want a GOOD deck, fork out for a Nakamichi everything else is a compromise, and will in the end come down to how well it's installed.
I noticed that the Xplod stuff got a baging, well coz I got it for peanuts, my entire set up is Xplod, x1 50x4 deck and x2 6" 2ways, people ask were are the rest of the speakers?, were is the amp/sub?..... anyway enough.-chris
    ... ptui!

Yeah Xplod is only the slightest bit good if your whole system is. but jvc jbl bluapunkt(or somthin like that) boston rallys are also good. my bros got a far doof doof 404 every peugeot enthusiest knows or him.
I'm probably the youngest guy in canberra(15 yr) to own a 404, it's proably one of the fastest too!
