    Default engine bits

anyone out there got any clues about if and where you can get aftermarket idler and tensioner pulleys for the surpentine belt off a 405sri (8 valve, series 2 if ti makes a difference).

i was quoted $60 for the idler and $192 for the tensioner.

this is what i call robbery. $130 difference for the same little plastic pully. and even $60 for the cheaper one.

has anyone else encountered this problem? my idea was to get a couple of bearings and go to an engineer and get some alloy ones machined up.

Some years ago when I had one of these cars, I thought the pulleys could be replaced by a common type (AU Falcon?) one that were of a better design anyway. Worth a look.

Yes, I had the same problem with an Mi16 alternator/AC idler. Owen Wuillemin built an aluminium one with a common bearing for me.

Did you try Auto France, Artarmon?
