Default 306 Rallye 2 litre auto

    Hi, I recently bought a 2001 306 Rallye 2 litre auto

It drives wonderfully but uses about 11.5 liters per 100 klm around Melbourne with about half the distance travelled on the freeway at 100 kph - I was expecting better fuel economy than that.
How does that compare with other 306's?

Also, do you guys use synthetic oil for the motor as it says in the manual?

    Good purchase my friend!!

You're right, fuel economy isn't exactly among the 306s strong points. I'm getting about the same for mine, although you'll do better on freeway driving. I'm finding if I don't thrash the poor girl and drive in the highest gear as soon as poss, it gets better. Others here might beg to differ.

My car gets about 10L/100km with mixed city driving and 8-8.5 on the highway. It's the same engine, but manual.

The XU engines were dropped in the 307 because they weren't known for their fuel economy - the replacement engine is the EW series.

Yes, I use synthetic oil - Penrite at the moment, althought probably ELF (French brand) from the next oil change.

Default Rallye fuel consumption / service recommendation

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I just filled up again and got 10.5 L for 100klm this time.
Could it be BP Premium compared to the Shell product that I filled up with the previous time? I recall reading that the BP has a higher octane rating.

Stone Free, I live in Northcote as well so I'm keeping an eye out for your gold GTi!

My Rallye (Rebadged XT?) is a black beauty!

Any recommendations on a Melbourne garage for my 40,000 service?

    Cheers guys

Well done on the purchase. My s16 gets similar fuel consumption, it just seems to be a trait of 306's, but all is forgiven when you take it through a great corner!

As for mechanics in Melbourne - Universe Motors in Richmond are peugeot specialists, and I've found them to be pretty good. In recent times I've been going to Auto Paris in Box Hill, who I've been very happy with. They seem to know 306's backwards, and in my experience are a bit cheaper than others. In my humble opinion, the independent workshops are preferable to dealers, as they're certainly a lot cheaper, and give more personalised service. I've had bad experiences at one inner-eastern peugeot dealer !

Paltallo; just keep your eyes open in the Plaza carpark My GTI sticks out like the proverbial in amongst the sea of silver and black Commodores you tend to see around there.

There's a Euro Motor mechanic on Heidelberg Rd Alphington who look like they look after 306s as I've seen a couple parked there. They specialise in BMWs and Benzs though and are quite pricey from what I have heard, but if location is an issue.....

If you find one can you let me know for future reference?
