Default why is everybody trying to sell there 205's ??

this is just out of intrest, but lately it seems that there has been a hell of a lot of 205 GTI's on the market... maybe i've been paying to much atention but it seems everybody wants to get rid of a 205 GTI. whats going on here guys, is everyone moveing up to GTI 180's... i wish i could but my bank balance won't allow it. just a bit of intrest because you see a lot of them being advertised for sale especially in the last 6 months

I haven't seen that many around for sale, even fewer Series 3 ones. Mostly only the SI models. If I had come across a 205GTi a few weeks ago I probably would've got it! Alas, not to be.

well theres at least 3 or 4 that i can think of that have been for sale here and a couple i've seen for sale elsewhere in the last month or so... no series 3's but there again there isn't much advantage to the series 3 apart from a few creature comforts, the red GTI strip on the back and 15" wheels... i can't really think of much else... theres at least 2 really good 205 GTI's on here at the moment if not 3 now... maybe if you waited a little while you could have got darrens but then again its not much of a daily driver anymore. eitherway in a lot of ways the GTI6 is a better car, its just not as raw as the 205. maybe you want to swap for my 4 door 205

I don't think there's anything too sinister about it all.
Personally, I'd love a 205GTi as a toy; magic machine but as I have a garage and a lot of my 5 acres already covered in cars, I'm all outta room and cash to buy them. But I repeat, "a toy" and I think that's where the problem lies. Lots of people buy them as toys and toys being toys and boys being boys, the novelty wears off, the girlfriends arrive and when it comes to socialising with the girlfriend and her friends and/or the family begins to grow, a 2 door hotty still is quite nice and hard to part with but equally as hard to shoehorn some 6'4" mate with a top heavy girlfriend into the back seat at 3 in the morning after a night out clubbing.
They are often these days the "entry model" to many to the French Car scene and once their appetite has been wetted, they go on to bigger, better and sometimes quirkier things. (Keller'll hate me for saying that)

mmmmmm... when i get bored of my 4 door 205 you may be intrested in it, good mix between being fun and being useable haveing 4 doors... need to do something about the slugomatic one day, but don't really want to lose the value of what it is in australia, its a har choice... keep its value and keep it for what it is or chop it to bits and shoehorn an MI16 in it ... nar i'd never do the MI16 thing in this car, but i might warm it up a little if i can't work out what the last idiot did to the carby on it the way its going right now makes me want to sell it. i think its also a kind of a shame that young kids are getting there hands on 205 GTI's these days and wringing there necks and then runing them into the ground...

    hi orestes,

yeah, methinks youre paying too much attention.

there have been a few for sale, and in recent times there has been even more interest in 205gti ownership, of late, but nothing like the anarchy you describe .

ive owned my s1 for nearly four years now, and dont plan to sell it. its a similar view ive heard echoed from other 205gti drivers. i also have a company car.

i could purchase a better condition/ later model 205 gti, or even for that matter, a new 180whatever, but i choose not to.

yes, im financially secure enough, and could have a spinning propeller badged automobile parked in the drive way yesterday, but i choose not to.

    fanatical about my own 205gti.

on a side note, 205gtis were never purchase for drivingmissdaisy type driving a 205gti was never meant to be civil. if you want something more civil albeit soft, go drive an si or a 206gti! . n.b. XTC .

205gtis were bought to be driven... yup, driven hard. theres no other way to drive a gti... you go for a drive, and you want to drive her harder, take that corner faster, etc. i could go on forever with cliches and never ending quotes but i wont make 206gtis drivers suffer .

and yeah, 205gtis are meant to be crashed, also!

tell, you what, orestes, every chance i get, i go hard, dump the clutch, smoke and all .

    someone line me up.

fair enough... i wasn't really sugesting that there not meant to be driven hard... but some people just drive them into the ground i.e. drive them till they either write them off or blow them up, and thats not a good thing... you can drive your car hard and give the next person down the line the chance to own one... i guess i'm just complaining about the people who buy a really good car and because its cheap they drive it into the ground or blow it up trying

I'm trying to sell mine because I want 4 doors, and something that likes the highway better. I think Alan summed up my case well, onto bigger and better things - BX16V!

205s are an unbelievable car, and I'm sure I'll own one or more again. Just at the moment, I need something a little more practical. I always wanted a 205, and its been good, but in all honesty, for me, something a little more refined, and comfortable is a better proposition.

As Alan said, onto bigger, better, and definitely quirkier things!

you can still have a 205 and 4 doors, looks at mine .... why does everyone want to forget about the poor 4 door 205's i think my car is practical enough, and i love it to bits i probably would never sell it... it just needs a little bit more power, maybe i'll import a twin carb maniflold from europe or maybe i'll just dump the entire engine and "shoehorn" an MI16

hmm.. maybe its a 4 door 309 GTI you want.. basically a 205 with a sedan body 4 doors and the 205 engine... or just buy the 405 MI16, you'll be an outcast if you buy a citroen nick and you'll hate yourself everytime you look at it

Something about the BX16V just grabs me, in terms of its appearance. The ride is magic, its nicer inside than the 205, and the potential there with 1050 odd kgs and the 16V is ridiculous.

I think all Pug enthusiasts end up at citroen at some point, when they see the light!

If anyone wants a 205 - check the F/S section! *Shameless plug*

Lots of 205's for sale you say !! In todays Courier Mail there were no less than
5 RCS's...most of them quite low k's... what does that say using the thinking
    previously mentioned re 205's ??

hmmm...cough cough.....I d really be carefull saying things like that....not because you r completely wrong but because you drive a FOUR (4) DOOR 205...
2 door is georgeous.....4 door 205 is ...well...not exactly pretty...a bit like the old mitsubitshi colt.....(not right is it)

Any particular citroen model that you find so repulsive????
